POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Fitness Director or other assigned associate, the Fitness Coach is responsible for delivering excellent services to all members, guests, and program participants. The primary function of the Fitness Coach will be to highly engage with members, guests, and program participants, including fitness appointments, general member use, member services/events, and providing a safe environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Model and embody the Y’s four Core Operating Principles—Safety, Cleanliness, Empathy, and Engagement—in every interaction and throughout every shift.

Provide a welcoming, inclusive, and high-quality experience for members, guests, and program participants through positive, professional, and solution-oriented interactions.

Actively engage members throughout the fitness center by regularly circulating the fitness floor, greeting members, building relationships, offering assistance and encouragement, and proactively identifying opportunities to support their experience.

Conduct high-quality fitness appointments, including Kids Cardio and Teen Quest, that educate members on safe and effective equipment use, help establish healthy workout habits, and build confidence using the fitness center.

Coach and encourage members of all ages and abilities in support of their individual wellness goals, recognizing and responding with empathy to differing needs, experience levels, and comfort levels.

Be knowledgeable about Y programs, services, and digital resources, including the YMCA360 app, and proactively connect members to classes, programs, workouts, schedules, and other resources that support their goals and deepen their engagement with the Y.

Coach and encourage members while recognizing and responding with empathy to differing abilities, needs, experience levels, and comfort levels.

Provide excellent services to members, guests, and program participants in the Y Center, on the phone, and through email exchange

Maintain a safe fitness environment by actively monitoring member activity and equipment use, reinforcing fitness center guidelines, addressing unsafe behavior or conditions promptly, and escalating concerns to the appropriate leader when needed.

Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming fitness environment by completing assigned cleaning responsibilities throughout the shift, regularly inspecting and cleaning equipment and fitness spaces, and promptly addressing or reporting cleanliness and facility concerns.

Regularly inspect fitness equipment for safety and proper function; remove or restrict access to unsafe equipment as appropriate and promptly report equipment concerns according to established procedures.

Know, follow, and positively reinforce all Y policies, procedures, emergency protocols, guidelines, and best practices.

Be knowledgeable about Y programs, services, and activities and proactively connect members to opportunities that support their goals and deepen their engagement with the Y.

Respond to member questions, concerns, and feedback with empathy and professionalism; resolve concerns within the scope of the role and involve a supervisor when additional support is needed.

Attend and actively participate in required meetings, trainings, and professional development.

Through engagement, build meaningful relationships with members, guests, and program participants with positive and solution driven interaction

Regularly circulateing through the fitness center(s) greeting, interacting, and supporting member’s use including enforce guidelines and policies, offering support and suggestions, or giving general support and encouragement remembering to be sensitivity and patience with member’s different needs

Conduct high quality and highly engaged fitness appointment for members to be better educated and establish good workout habits

Coach and encourage members to meet their wellness goals

Monitor, clean, and inspect equipment regularly; report any challenges or concerns
-
Adhere/enforce to and enforce all policies, guidelines, rules, and best practices as outlined by the Y in Central Maryland with positive interaction

Focus on quality experiences and engagement within programs, services, and activities
-
Promote a professional image and maintain a clean and safe environment at all times.

Attend and actively participate in all meetings as assigned

Incorporate the four character values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, and adhere to the YCM Code of Conduct

Communicate the Y mission and objectives to the community.

Assist in all other areas as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Ability to be an effective communicator
-
Prior fitness knowledge or equivalent experience
-
Proficient computer skills
-
Current CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certification (or within 30 days of hire)
-
Flexible Schedule, days, nights and weekends
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
-
Will be required to walk, stand, kneel, stoop, push, and lift up to 50 pounds.
-
While performing duties the employee may occasionally work in the outside weather conditions, and is exposed to wet, cold and /or humid conditions.

Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking.
-
Will be exposed to cleaning supplies.
-
Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.
-
Must be physically able to successfully complete required certifications.
An offer of employment is contingent upon receipt of satisfactory results to meet minimum requirements for the position. They may include a background check, drug test, driver’s license record, CPS, and/or Criminal Background check.
Additional driver’s license check, CPS, Criminal Background check, alcohol and/or drug testing may be required to be processed in the future in order to meet and maintain the minimum requirements of this position.
