Financial Specialist

Job Description:

The Financial Specialist will be responsible for all budgeting and financial operations for the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World (JIAAW) and the Center for Global Antiquity (CGA), and collaborates the Directors and Assistant Director on all budgetary matters. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and communicating internal financial procedures and protocols, and ensuring that financial practices conform to University policies. The Financial Specialist plays a critical role in budget development, management, and analysis for the two units.

The individual co-manages, with relevant faculty, budgets related to fieldwork, laboratory work, and other research-related endeavors. The incumbent is responsible for all financial transactions, reimbursements, and financial reporting related to internal awards for faculty and students at the JIAAW and the CGA. This position manages all financial aspects of student appointments: hiring and payroll. 

This position will provide backup to other staff as necessary.

This is a 50% FTE position.

Education and Experience

●                    Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

●                    Financial and budget experience required.

●                    Experience in an academic, educational, or nonprofit environment preferred.

●                    Excellent time management skills, ability to assess priorities and pivot in response to pressing needs.

●                    Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills.

●                    Strong verbal and written communication skills.

●                    Substantial financial management skills.

●                    Excellent computer skills with a strong aptitude for learning new systems. 

●                    Experience with Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel and Powerpoint), Google suites (Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, etc.), Workday, and Zoom/other video conferencing.
