Role Overview

This is a hands-on, detail-driven role for someone who thinks like an investor. You will use Clarenza the way an associate at a buyout or growth fund would: running data rooms through the platform, checking every figure against its source, and pinpointing where our KPIs and investment memos can better reflect the underlying documents. This is not generic software testing. Your work will directly improving the product experience. This role reports to the CEO.

What You’ll Own

• Deal Processing: Running test and live data rooms (CIMs, management accounts, audited statements, cap tables, board packs) through Clarenza and reviewing the KPIs and memos it produces.

• Figure Verification: Matching every number to its source across revenue, EBITDA, margins, ARR, growth, net debt, cash burn, headcount and market size.

• Error Detection: Hunting for the classic errors: scale and unit mistakes, wrong or mixed currencies, period mismatches (FY vs LTM vs quarter, calendar vs fiscal year), adjusted and reported figures presented as the same thing, sign errors, double counting, totals that don't add up, implausible values, and CIM claims that contradict the audited accounts.

• Red-Flag Test Rooms: Building realistic data rooms with planted inconsistencies and scoring whether Clarenza catches them.

• Answer Key: Maintaining the correct value, source and page for every KPI, so each new release can be checked against it.

• Issue Logging: Documenting findings precisely in our issue tracker (document, page, expected value, reported value, severity and steps to reproduce).

Who You Are

• Education: Enrolled in a bachelor's or master's programme in finance, accounting, economics or business, or an equivalent qualification (for example, a CFA candidate while at university), with enrolment status and study regulations that allow this internship.

• Financial Fluency: A solid grasp of the three financial statements and how they link, including EBITDA adjustments, working capital and net debt. You know why adjusted and reported EBITDA differ.

• Excel: Strong Excel skills.

• Private Markets Interest: A clear interest in private equity, venture capital, growth equity, buyouts or family office investing.

• Sceptical Mindset: Meticulous and comfortable saying a number is wrong, then proving it.

• Autonomy: Clear written communication and the discipline to work remotely without close supervision.

• Language: Fluent English (C1 or above), written and spoken.

• Nice to Have: A previous internship in PE, VC, M&A, transaction services, audit or corporate finance; valuation, LBO or three-statement modelling experience; SaaS metrics knowledge (ARR, NRR, CAC payback); German (many DACH deal documents are in German); membership of a student finance club; hands-on use of AI tools, with basic Python or SQL as a plus.

Location & Working Style

• Location: Remote-first, with working hours overlapping CET. The team is based in Hamburg (HQ), Vienna and Lisbon.

• Engagement: Unpaid internship, either a mandatory curricular internship or a voluntary internship alongside your studies. 3 months (longer only if required by your study regulations), 15 to 20 hours per week, flexible start.

• Development: Weekly 1:1 with the CEO, a written learning plan agreed in week one, midpoint and final reviews, a detailed internship certificate (Praktikumszeugnis), a personal reference and university paperwork on successful completion. Where there is a strong fit, a conversation about future roles with us.
