Field Installation Technician

Are you a hands-on technical professional who enjoys working directly with customers and technology in the field? ORBCOMM is seeking a Field Installation Technician to support the deployment, installation, training, and ongoing success of our telematics and hardware solutions. In this role, you will play a critical part in delivering high-quality installations, supporting new product rollouts, and helping customers and partners maximize the value of ORBCOMM technology.

As a member of ORBCOMM’s Field Services organization, you will work closely with customers, installation partners, Customer Success, Engineering, and Product teams to ensure successful deployments across a wide range of fleet and telematics solutions. Reporting to the Field Installation Team Lead, you will contribute to installation excellence, customer enablement, field support, and continuous improvement initiatives that directly impact customer satisfaction and product adoption.

This role can be held remotely in Texas, Arkansas, or Oklahoma. This position averages 80% travel.

What You’ll Do

Installation & Deployment

• Perform field installations across ORBCOMM’s telematics, in-cab, and related hardware solutions.
• Support pilot programs, large-scale deployments, and product rollouts.
• Ensure installations are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with project timelines and service expectations.
• Maintain consistency across installations while adhering to established standards and best practices.

Training & Customer Enablement

• Deliver hands-on training to customers, partners, and third-party installers.
• Demonstrate installation procedures, product functionality, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Help drive successful adoption of ORBCOMM solutions through effective knowledge transfer and support.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

• Provide on-site and remote technical support during and after installations.
• Diagnose and resolve hardware, wiring, connectivity, and installation-related issues.
• Escalate and collaborate with internal teams as needed to ensure timely resolution of customer issues.

Documentation & Process Improvement

• Maintain accurate installation records, field reports, and supporting documentation.
• Assist with the development, review, validation, and continuous improvement of installation guides and technical materials.
• Identify opportunities to improve installation processes, tools, and documentation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Engineering and Product teams to support new hardware introductions and product enhancements.
• Provide field feedback to help improve products, installation methods, and customer experience.
• Communicate regularly with Field Services, Customer Success, Engineering, and other internal stakeholders.

Who You Are

You are a technically skilled and customer-focused professional who thrives in field environments and takes pride in delivering quality work. You combine strong troubleshooting abilities with excellent communication skills and enjoy helping customers, partners, and installers succeed.

If you have:

• 3–5+ years of experience in field installation, telematics, fleet technology, or a related technical field.
• Hands-on experience with in-cab systems, telematics devices, fleet technology, or similar hardware solutions.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Experience reading and interpreting technical installation documentation and wiring diagrams.
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware, wiring, and connectivity issues.
• Experience working in field environments, including vehicles, depots, and customer locations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and support customers, partners, or installers.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Preferred: Experience using mobile installation applications or field service tools.
• Preferred: Familiarity with creating training materials, instructional content, or installation documentation.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
• Commitment to quality, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Leverage AI-enabled tools and automation to support daily tasks and productivity.
• Commitment to continuous learning in digital and AI literacy.

Additionally:

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs (23 kg) on a regular basis.
• Ability to work in and around trucks, trailers, refrigerated units, and heavy equipment.
• Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and climb while performing installations and troubleshooting.
• Ability to work in tight or confined spaces, including under dashboards, inside cabs, and around equipment compartments.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively for extended periods.
• Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical work for prolonged periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
• Ability to climb ladders and safely access installation locations at various heights when required.
• Ability to travel frequently and operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver's license.
