Family, Friends, and Neighbors (FNN) Internship (Part-time)

Responsibilities

• Be onsite at the Nest during programming hours.
• Assists with daily programming outdoors in an Ojibwe immersion setting.
• Commitment to develop proficiency in the Ojibwe language is required.
• Assist Language Nest Facilitator and Cultural Specialist with harvesting, preparing, and serving traditional foods in programming when foods are available.
• Assist with program site organization and cleaning.
• Works with Nest Facilitator to develop and implement curriculum and resources for families at home and to be used on site.
• Participate in required meetings for program evaluation with funders and program team as needed.
• Participate in Adult Immersion Academy programming and opportunities when possible.
• Develop skills in planning and teaching activities for children and families.
• Works with OOG Staff on an Ojibwe language proficiency development plan.
• Assists with daily programming in an outdoor Ojibwe immersion setting.
• Complete child development and other courses to benefit programming.
• Completes first aid and CPR training.
• Appropriate work attire is required.
• Ensure confidentiality of all financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.
• Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
• Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
• Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
• Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area.
• Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.

Qualifications

• No Driver’s License Required
• Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, Access, Excel and Microsoft Outlook is required.
• Ojibwe immersion environment experience is preferred but not necessary.
• Commitment to develop proficiency in hearing, speaking, reading and writing Ojibwe double vowel system s preferred
• Knowledge of Native American communities, culture, customs and beliefs is preferred
• Demonstrated experience working with Native American clients, community and is able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity is required.
• Developing knowledge about Native language preservation and revitalization is preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively in English orally and in writing is required.
• Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required/
• Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
• Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
• Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
• Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
• Some travel is required.

          PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, including work in adverse weather conditions.
