Position Summary

Omega Community Development Corporation is seeking a dedicated and proactive Group Activity Monitor to oversee and support scholars in grades K-6 during various school-related activities. This part-time position involves leading weekly art classes for young scholars and monitoring scholars during mealtimes, activities, field trips, arrival, dismissal, and restroom breaks, as well as providing behavioral and social-emotional support within the Scholars of H.O.P.E. program. Additionally, the role includes assisting with family engagement events and attending required meetings and events

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Supervision: Monitor scholars during meal times, school activities, field trips, arrival, dismissal, and restroom breaks to ensure safety and proper conduct.

Lesson Planning: Develop and implement engaging art lesson plans that are age-appropriate and align with educational standards.

Instruction: Provide hands-on instruction in various art techniques including but not limited to drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, art history, and mediums, ensuring all scholars understand and can apply new skills.

Behavioral Support: Provide behavioral and social-emotional support to scholars, helping them navigate social interactions, manage emotions, and adhere to school rules and expectations.

Program Support: Assist with the Scholars of H.O.P.E. program, engaging with scholars in a positive and supportive manner to promote personal growth and development.

Family Engagement: Support family engagement events throughout the year, including planning, setup, and participation to strengthen school-family connections.

Meetings and Events: Attend all required meetings and events related to the Scholars of H.O.P.E. program, contributing to program development and ensuring alignment with program goals.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• Experience in a school setting or working with children
• Ability to pass a BCI/FBI Background Check

• Mobility: Frequent standing, walking, and moving around to supervise scholars during various activities, including meal times, field trips, and breaks.
• Manual Dexterity: Use of hands for tasks such as setting up activities, assisting scholars, and handling materials.
• Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying of materials or equipment related to activities or events, typically up to 20 pounds.
• Reaching and Bending: Frequent reaching, bending, and crouching to interact with scholars at their level, manage materials, and assist with various tasks.
• Visual and Auditory Requirements: Adequate vision to monitor scholars' activities and safety, and auditory ability to communicate effectively in a busy environment.
• Stamina: Ability to maintain energy and attention during extended periods of activity, including supervising multiple scholars and participating in events

Work Environment

• Classroom and Outdoor Settings: Work is performed in a variety of settings, including classrooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, and other school facilities. May also involve outdoor field trips.
• Noise Level: Moderate to high noise levels typical of environments with active children, including during mealtimes, activities, and field trips.
• Comfort: Ensure a comfortable environment by maintaining appropriate seating and setup for activities and ensuring adequate safety measures are in place.
• Safety Considerations: Adherence to safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment for all scholars, including supervision during breaks and transitions.
• Interaction: Frequent interaction with scholars, requiring effective communication and interpersonal skills to manage behavior, provide support, and engage positively.
• Flexibility: Ability to adapt to various situations and needs, including different group sizes, activity types, and individual scholar requirements.
