Job Summary

Reporting to the Property Manager, the Facility Technician individually or in a team performs all necessary inspections and repairs. The Facilities Technician will be an active listener and respond by exhibiting cross-cultural awareness in data analysis and delivery; with the ability to promote and contribute to an equitable and inclusive organizational culture and environment.   

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Program/Facilities

• Assess scattered site apartment maintenance needs.  

• Perform scattered site apartment inspections 
• Report discrepancies to supervisor 

• Maintain scattered site apartments in clean order. 

• Perform office cleaning as scheduled, including but not limited to sanitizing,   window/glass washing, high dusting and vacuuming.  

• Monitor scattered site apartments at all times for issues needing attention such as emergency repairs and report issues immediately to supervisor.   
• Work safely using all appropriate health and safety precautions in performing tasks. 
• Perform preventive and remedial repairs at scattered site apartments including minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs.  
• Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the respective function. 
• Ensure that all equipment and units are in good working order and provide recommendations for repair, upgrade or replacement when needed. 
• Ensure that all vehicles are maintained in good working order, including registration, inspections and mechanical repairs. 

• Provide recommendations for repair, upgrade or replacement when needed. 
• Complete and submit accurate and timely monthly vehicle report to supervisor.  

Administrative 

• Conduct scattered site apartment inspection reports identifying necessary maintenance and repair needs. 
• Assist in maintaining inventories of all maintenance and janitorial supplies as needed. 
• Complete work orders and other tasks as assigned.   
• Complete paperwork to close out all assigned work orders. 
• Accept deliveries and check invoices for accuracy and report any discrepancies immediately to supervisor. 
• Perform inter and intra building moves and relocations as needed. 
• Assist in developing preventive maintenance plan for scattered site apartments.  
• Conduct unit inspections based on Urban Pathways and funding requirements.  
• Complete and submit appropriate reports. 

Community Relations 

• Work with vendors to ensure supplies and services are delivered on time. 
• Coordinate with donors and other community resources for donations. 
• Respond to inquiries and represents Urban Pathways with community members and groups as needed. 
• Collaborate closely with the superintendent, vendors and utility providers.    

Communication 

• Handle email and other inquiries in a timely manner. 
• Attend staff meetings, training, and supervisory sessions as required.   

Performs all other duties as assigned and as required.  

Qualifications, Education and Experience

• High School Degree, GED or equivalent preferred. 
• Minimum three to four years’ experience in building maintenance and janitorial duties. 
• Some formal training in building maintenance/construction with ability to diagnose and solve simple technical issues including but not limited to minor repairs, carpentry and painting.   
• Sensitivity and patience working with homeless, mentally-ill and substance abuse population a plus. 

Skills and Competencies 

• Good written and verbal communication skills. 
• Ability to use efficiently various power and hand tools in a safe manner. 
• Knowledge of a variety of building maintenance, repair and janitorial procedures, techniques and safety. 

 
Other 

Required to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings. 

Licenses 

• Valid driver’s license required.  
• OSHA license a plus. 
• CPR, First Aid required within 3 months of hire. 
• AED preferred 

 
Capabilities

• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and walk, stand, push or pull, climb stairs and ladders frequently. Bend, carry, goods including furniture, supplies and equipment.   
• All programs require field work, home visits, client escorts, and use of public transportation.
