Facilities Assistant (PT)

This role is part-time, working up to 28 hours per week, primarily weekends.

Under the direction of the Facilities Superintendent, the Facilities Assistant undertakes the routine cleaning and minor maintenance of the Museum buildings and grounds. Cleaning tasks will be carried out to acceptable standards with minimal direct supervision. Facilities Assistant tasks will normally be undertaken while working closely with the Superintendent or Building Engineer.

Qualifications:

• HS. Diploma/or equivalent and one year of experience in custodial department of large building or museum preferred
• Good communication skills needed
• Must be flexible, neat appearance and ability to work effectively in the museum environment
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities:

• Carry out scheduled cleaning of Museum facilities, including rest rooms, exhibits, floor and carpet care, etc.
• Collection and disposal of trash.
• Assist other maintenance staff with routine and special repairs and projects, moving and setup of furniture, exhibits, etc.
• Undertake or assist with periodic maintenance such as painting, floor stripping and waxing, snow removal, etc.
• Perform event set up and cleaning before and after Museum events.
• Ensure safety throughout the facility for the public, staff, and especially maintenance personnel.
• Includes understanding the use of maintenance chemicals, and awareness of visitor safety issues at all times.
• Other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned by supervisor.
