Littleton Equine Medical Center is seeking an experienced and motivated Patient Care Professional to help support and lead our Intensive Care Unit Team. This role combines advanced patient care with leadership responsibilities, including mentoring team members, coordinating patient flow, supporting daily staffing operations, and partnering with veterinarians to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.

The Experienced Patient Care Professional serves as a clinical leader within the hospital, promoting exceptional patient care, operational efficiency, and team development. This role functions as a central resource for the intensive care unit team, coordinating daily patient flow, supporting staffing needs, mentoring team members, and partnering closely with veterinarians to ensure the highest standards of care for hospitalized patients.

As an Experienced Patient Care Professional, you will play a vital role in:

Supporting emergency and critical care patients throughout hospitalization
Assisting with advanced diagnostics and treatments
Monitoring patient status and advocating for patient needs
Collaborating with specialists and emergency clinicians
Providing compassionate, high-quality care during every stage of treatment
Collaborate with veterinarians regarding patient priorities, admissions, transfers, and discharge planning.
Assist in managing caseload distribution and workflow during high-volume periods.
Monitor hospitalized patient census and proactively identify resource or staffing needs.
Serve as a point person for patient care coordination during emergencies and critical events.
Support hospital-wide communication regarding patient status, treatment plans, and operational updates.
Ensure appropriate prioritization of emergency admissions and critical patients.

Qualifications: Education/Experience: Basic level of horse handling experience required. Preference given to credentialed technicians who have graduated from an AVMA accredited school of veterinary technology and successfully completed the VTNE.

Language Ability: Ability to understand both written and verbal instructions regarding patient care and treatments. Ability to appropriately chart patient parameters, subjective observations, and independently utilize provided resources for standard operating procedures. Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from managers, doctors, and clients.

Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as drug doses, dilutions, percentages, rate, ratio and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, add subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions.

Computer Skills: Computer literacy in common computer software programs.

Special Skills: Equine restraint/handling and horsemanship skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions throughout all four seasons. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and works near moving mechanical parts. Knowledge of MSDS use and personal protective gear including (but not limited to) gloves, masks, respirators, and eyewash stations are required.
