Job Description

The Jewish Museum of Maryland is America’s leading museum of regional Jewish history, culture and community. The Museum tells the story of the American Jewish experience in the city of Baltimore and throughout Maryland. Our Museum offers visitors fascinating and diverse exhibitions, as well as, two landmark historic sites – the Lloyd Street Synagogue, built in 1845 and B’nai Israel Synagogue, built in 1876.

The opportunity

The Jewish Museum of Maryland (JMM) seeks an Exhibit Coordinator to support the organization as it continues to build a robust exhibit schedule following capital updates and expansion of gallery spaces. The Exhibit Coordinator, reporting to the Exhibits Manager, will work cross-departmentally supporting JMM staff in exhibit development and execution. In this role, with the support of the Executive Director, the Deputy Director and Exhibits Manager, your responsibilities will include:

Main responsibilities

  • Supports project development for gallery-based projects, including maintaining schedules, attending team meetings, articulating project goals and strategy briefs, and general administrative tasks.
  • Supports the installation and maintenance of JMM galleries across the campus, taking an active role in the gallery preparations between exhibits and maintenance throughout the run of staged shows. 
  • Provides support for internal and external exhibit curators, most typically the latter.
  • Assists in the development, production and installation of exhibit graphic elements.
  • Assists in the asset procurement process, including image, film, and audio.
  • Assists in loan processes, working with both institutions and private individuals.

 Qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; alternatively, 1+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) preferred
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Jewish communal sector is a plus.
  • Experience in cultural heritage is a plus.
  • May require occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Requires extensive sitting, standing, and walking
  • Must be willing to complete background checks as required by current or future contracts
  • Experience working within a Jewish communal setting a plus
  • Occasional Sunday and evening hours are required for this position.

What we offer:

  • The hourly rate for this part-time position is $29.00, based on a sixteen-hour work week. Work schedules are developed in collaboration with supervisors within the Museum’s business hours. Part-time schedules are typically three or four days per week.
  • This position includes 48 hours of vacation (representing three standard work weeks) and 28 hours of sick time (representing 1.75 standard work weeks) per year. Vacation and sick time are only to be applied toward established work schedules
  • JMM staff are unionized within Teamsters Local 355. This is a bargaining unit position.
  • We close the Museum for the following Jewish holidays when they fall within JMM business hours: Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, the first two days of Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret, Simchat Torah, Shavuot, and the first and last two days of Passover.
  • We close the Museum for New Years Day, MLK Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth,  July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and the day following Thanksgiving.

What to expect:

  • Step 1: Review of submissions and initial candidate pool formation.
  • Step 2: Up to two interviews with JMM team members. References will be called for candidates under consideration after the second interview.
  • Step 3: Final candidate selection. Placement is anticipated in May 2026. All applicants will be notified of their status after the final candidate has accepted the offer.
