About the department / center:
The Institute for Transforming University Education has a national and international reputation for over twenty-five years in helping educators develop, adopt, adapt, and implement problem-based learning and other active pedagogies in their classrooms. Each year we offer multiple workshops for instructors from colleges and universities in the US and abroad.
Role Description:
The University of Delaware's Institute for Transforming University Education is seeking to hire a 10-hour/week graduate student position. This new hire will work with ITUE on a number of projects including: increasing advertising and outreach for workshops, helping to manage the Problem-based learning (PBL) Clearinghouse, helping with the organization of ITUE workshops and activities, and increasing communication between ITUE and other campus partners. This position will begin in the Fall 2026 semester.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Executive coordinator
- weekly meetings to scope out everything going on with ITUE.
- Workshop preparation (including things like Google docs/folder/sheets set up, advertisement messages, managing registration and grant applications)
- Managing Editor of the PBL Clearinghouse (kind of like a journal - duties include submissions workflow and processing, communicating with authors, editors, and external reviewers).
Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have
(1) a strong interest in pedagogy and active learning techniques
(2) excellent organization skills, attention to detail, and communication habits and
(3) some experience with and/or willingness to learn Google Sheets, Wordpress, and Sharepoint.
Prior experience with journal management (e.g., moving submissions through the editorial process) is not required but would be highly valued (The PBL Clearinghouse functions in a similar way to a journal). The student will work closely with the director, Dr. Philip Duker (Music and Humanities), and also work with a wide range of colleagues from other disciplines (Biology, Communications, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology).
Eligibility for Graduate Student Employment
Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Delaware and be in good academic standing. In order to be considered for additional on-campus employment, applicants’ combined on-campus employment, including teaching, research and graduate assistantship, must not exceed 29.5 hours per week.
Graduate students on contract may hold additional employment, on campus or off, up to 29.5 hours per week total without approval by the student’s program, the student’s advisor or the Graduate College. However, graduate students on contract are encouraged to discuss additional employment with their advisors to avoid any situations that might hinder timely progress toward the degree.
