About the Role:
The Kitchen Steward / Dishwasher plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen environment, ensuring that all dishware, utensils, and kitchen equipment are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. This position supports the culinary team by providing a steady supply of clean dishes and tools, which is essential for smooth kitchen operations and timely food service. The role requires attention to detail to uphold health and safety standards, preventing contamination and promoting a hygienic workspace. Additionally, the Kitchen Steward / Dishwasher assists with general kitchen maintenance tasks, such as waste disposal and cleaning kitchen floors and surfaces. Ultimately, this position contributes significantly to the overall efficiency and success of the food service operation by fostering a clean, safe, and well-organized kitchen environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene and sanitation standards.
- Capability to operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong work ethic with reliability and punctuality.
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively within a team.
- Evening and weekend availability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a kitchen steward or dishwasher role within a restaurant or food service setting.
- Knowledge of proper chemical handling and cleaning procedures.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations such as ServSafe or equivalent certifications.
- Physical stamina to lift heavy kitchenware and perform manual cleaning tasks.
- Good communication skills to coordinate effectively with kitchen and service staff.
Responsibilities:
- Operate dishwashing machines and manually wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils to ensure cleanliness and sanitation.
- Sort and stack clean dishes and kitchenware in designated areas for easy access by kitchen and service staff.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, walls, and work surfaces by sweeping, mopping, and wiping down as needed.
- Dispose of kitchen waste and recyclables in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Assist kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks and restocking supplies when necessary.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
