Job Title: Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Lead Department: Environmental, Health & Safety Reports To: Corporate Compliance Officer / Operations Leadership Location: Flexible Base- within commuting distance of any of our locations Travel: Up to 60% — New York, Connecticut, Ohio, and Texas Employment Type: Full-Time 

Salary: $85,000.00- $109,200.00 

Position Summary 

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Lead is responsible for leading and supporting environmental, health, and safety programs across the company's rubber manufacturing operations. This position provides hands-on EHS leadership at multiple manufacturing facilities and is responsible for promoting a safe work environment, ensuring regulatory compliance, identifying, and mitigating workplace hazards, and driving continuous improvement in EHS performance. 

The EHS Lead will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Human Resources, and site leadership to establish consistent EHS standards and practices across the organization. The position will regularly interact with employees at all levels and serve as a key resource for safety, environmental compliance, training, incident investigation, and risk reduction.

Responsibilities

EHS Program Management 

• Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve EHS programs, policies, and procedures across multiple manufacturing facilities. 

• Ensure EHS programs address hazards specific to rubber manufacturing and related processes. 

• Establish consistent EHS standards, procedures, and best practices across company locations. 

• Monitor EHS performance metrics and provide recommendations to management. 

• Partner with site leadership to integrate EHS requirements into daily manufacturing operations. 

Safety & Risk Management 

• Conduct routine facility inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments. 

• Identify workplace hazards and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions. 

• Evaluate and support controls related to machine guarding, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE, ergonomics, chemical exposure, airborne contaminants, combustible dust, noise, heat, and material handling. 

• Conduct and/or support Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and hazard assessments. 

• Track corrective actions and follow up to ensure timely completion and effectiveness. 

• Support the implementation of engineering, administrative, and work-practice controls. 

Incident Investigation 

• Lead or support investigations involving employee injuries, near misses, property damage, and environmental incidents. 

• Conduct root-cause analysis and identify corrective and preventive actions. 

• Monitor incident trends and recommend initiatives to reduce recurring incidents and hazards. 

• Maintain appropriate incident documentation and records. 

• Support workers' compensation and return-to-work activities as required. 

Training & Employee Engagement 

• Develop and deliver EHS training for employees, supervisors, and management. 

• Coordinate new-hire safety orientation and required refresher training. 

• Provide training on topics including PPE, Hazard Communication, LOTO, chemical safety, emergency response, and other applicable EHS requirements. 

• Conduct or support safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee engagement initiatives. 

• Promote employee participation in hazard identification and safety improvement activities. 

• Coach supervisors and managers on EHS responsibilities and accountability. 

Environmental Compliance 

• Support environmental compliance programs at company facilities. 

• Assist with environmental permits and regulatory requirements related to hazardous waste, stormwater, SPCC, air emissions, wastewater, and other applicable programs. 

• Maintain required environmental records and documentation. 

• Support environmental inspections, audits, reporting, and corrective actions. 

• Identify opportunities to reduce waste, environmental risk, and resource consumption. 

Regulatory Compliance 

• Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including OSHA and EPA requirements. 

• Support regulatory inspections, audits, and agency interactions. 

• Assist with responding to regulatory findings and implementing corrective actions. 

• Monitor regulatory developments and communicate applicable changes to management. 

• Maintains required EHS documentation, records, permits, and training records. 

Multi-Site Support 

• Travel to company manufacturing facilities in New York, Connecticut, Ohio, Texas, and other locations as needed, with travel expected to be up to 60%. 

• Provide on-site EHS support and guidance to local management and employees. 

• Evaluate site-specific risks and recommend appropriate controls and improvements. 

• Support consistent implementation of corporate EHS programs and requirements across all locations. 
• Build effective working relationships with plant managers, supervisors, employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

• 2–5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or process environment. 

• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, particularly 29 CFR 1910. 

• Working knowledge of EPA and applicable state environmental requirements. 

• Experience conducting safety inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, and EHS training. 

• Working knowledge of Lockout/Tagout, machine guarding, Hazard Communication, PPE, ergonomics, and emergency response. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 

• Ability to work independently and effectively across multiple facilities. 

• Ability and willingness to travel up to 60%. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience in rubber, plastics, chemical, automotive, or other process manufacturing. 

• OSHA 30-Hour certification. 

• Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification. 

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification. 

• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification. 

• Experience with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 management systems. 

• Experience with industrial hygiene monitoring and exposure assessments. 

• Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field preferred. 

• Experience with EHS management.

Work Environment 

The EHS Lead will regularly work in manufacturing environments and will spend significant time on the production floor. The position may involve exposure to noise, heat, rubber compounds, chemicals, dust, moving machinery, and other industrial hazards. 

The employee is required to follow all applicable safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment when working in designated areas. 

Physical Requirements 

• Ability to regularly walk and stand throughout manufacturing facilities. 

• Ability to access production, maintenance, warehouse, and other industrial areas. 

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment. 

• Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move materials or equipment as necessary to perform job responsibilities. 

• Ability to travel regularly between company locations.
