Entry-Level Occupational Safety and Health Data Analyst

ERG is seeking curious, detail-oriented analysts to support national occupational safety and health programs by analyzing and classifying real-world workplace injury and illness data. Your work directly supports the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) efforts to understand injury and illness trends and improve worker safety across the U.S. This entry- or mid-level role is ideal for someone who enjoys analytical work, applies sound judgement consistently, and is motivated by contributing to real world improvements in worker health and safety. You will analyze work-related fatality, catastrophe, and severe injury or illness records, draft brief incident narratives, and assign case characteristic codes for each using the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System (OIICS).  

This full-time position is fully remote, giving you the flexibility to work from home. Teamwork is vital to our success, so you will partner daily with a supportive analyst team through Microsoft Teams. Additionally, if you prefer an in-person environment and live near one of our physical offices, you are welcome to use our workspace as well.

Job Description:

• Review workplace injury, illness, and fatality records and apply standardized case‑classification codes using the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System (OIICS)
• Exercise thoughtful, independent judgment to accurately classify complex or ambiguous cases while maintaining speed and consistency
• Draft brief, clear incident narratives that summarize the circumstances of each case in plain, concise language
• Manage multiple work queues and deadlines while maintaining high quality and attention to detail
• Collaborate regularly with team members and senior analysts for guidance, quality checks, and knowledge sharing
• Contribute to documentation, process improvements, and evolving analytical practices over time
• Experience with occupational health and safety and structured coding (e.g. OIICS, ICD coding) is preferred. However, training for OIICS version 3.03 coding will be provided

Qualifications and Skills:

• A bachelor’s degree in communications, health/environmental science, mathematics/statistics, or a related field
• Experience required: 0 to 5 years
• Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail, with the ability to apply rules consistently
• Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely
• Outstanding time-management and organizational skills with the ability to work independently in a remote environment to accomplish assignments in a timely manner  
• Experience or strong interest in data analysis, public health, occupational safety, epidemiology, or related fields.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint)
• Willingness and ability to learn new software and technical skills as required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with structured classification or coding systems (e.g., OIICS, ICD, or similar)
• Experience or coursework in data analysis or data management. Prior exposure to occupational health, injury or illness surveillance, or public health research

\n$58,000 - $70,000 a year\n

The salary range for all positions depends on the years and type of experience.
