Engineering Manager

The Engineering Manager will lead a team of application developers on delivering reliable, maintainable full-stack software. This is a front-line leadership role focused on technical guidance, team development, and delivery.
The incumbent is a pragmatic, well-rounded technologist who can guide application design, mentor engineers, and model effective leadership. Most technical work will involve design guidance, code reviews, and troubleshooting, with occasional contributions to production code.
Responsibilities
• Lead application developers through the design, development, testing, delivery, and maintenance of full-stack applications.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership through design guidance, code reviews, and troubleshooting; contribute production code when needed.
• Own application-level design decisions across front-end components, back-end services, APIs, databases, and integrations, aligned with the Director of Engineering’s broader technical direction.
• Manage engineers through regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, constructive feedback, and career development planning.
• Mentor engineers and model accountability, sound judgment, collaboration, and continuous learning in day-to-day work and team interactions.
• Plan and prioritize team tasks, estimate work, assign responsibilities, and manage capacity and progress against delivery milestones.
• Partner with product, program, data, and client stakeholders to clarify requirements, agree on scope, and translate business needs into practical technical solutions.
• Guide code quality, automated testing, application security, and documentation; ensure the team follows client SDLC processes and governance requirements.
• Collaborate with the Cloud Architect, who owns cloud infrastructure and DevOps, to coordinate application deployment needs and resolve dependencies.
• Communicate technical tradeoffs, delivery status, risks, and recommendations; maintain delivery plans, address blockers, and escalate issues when needed.
• Improve the team’s development and delivery practices, balancing commitments with software quality and engineers’ growth.
