Position Overview

International is a leader in commercial transportation, developing innovative truck and bus solutions that keep North America moving. As part of TRATON Group, a global commercial vehicle organization that includes Scania, MAN, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus, we are working together to create cleaner, safer, and more connected transportation solutions for the future.

As TRATON’s North American brand, International develops trucks, buses, technologies, and transportation solutions designed to meet the needs of customers across a wide range of industries and applications. Our engineering teams work throughout the product development lifecycle, turning ideas into real-world vehicles and continuously improving their performance, reliability, safety, quality, and customer value.

An internship with International gives students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a real-world engineering environment. Interns work alongside experienced professionals, gain hands-on exposure to the product development lifecycle, and contribute to meaningful projects supporting our products, customers, and future technologies. Along the way, they build technical and professional skills, expand their network, and explore potential career paths across International and the broader TRATON R&D organization.

Internships are 12-weeks long with start dates beginning in May 2027 until June 2027.

Responsibilities

Potential opportunities may exist within the following areas of International R&D:

Design Engineering

• Support the design, development, and integration of commercial vehicle systems and components while collaborating across engineering disciplines to deliver innovative, reliable, and customer-focused transportation solutions.

Test Engineering

• Contribute to the planning and execution of vehicle, system, and component testing by utilizing instrumentation, data acquisition, and analysis tools to evaluate performance, functionality, and durability.

Validation Engineering

• Support validation activities that ensure vehicles and systems meet engineering requirements, performance targets, reliability expectations, and customer needs through real-world and controlled testing environments.

Operations Engineering

• Support engineering operations through prototype builds, facility and proving ground activities, technical process improvements, and cross-functional coordination that enable successful product development and testing programs.

Quality Engineering

• Help improve product quality and reliability by analyzing performance data, supporting root cause investigations, implementing corrective actions, and driving continuous improvement throughout the product development lifecycle.

• Contribute to projects involving current products as well as emerging technologies, including electric vehicles, advanced vehicle systems, software, and other next-generation transportation solutions.
• Collaborate across engineering disciplines and with teams in manufacturing, quality, operations, procurement, and other business functions.
• Build technical and professional skills through mentorship, networking, training, and development opportunities.
• Make meaningful contributions to products and solutions that support International’s customers and help shape the future of commercial transportation.

Minimum Requirements

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

OR

• For Legal Jobs: Pursuing a Juris Doctor degree or Doctor of Law degree (J.D.)

• Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B or F-1 status)

Desired Skills

• At least Sophomore standing for undergrad at the time of application
• Able to work at least 12 weeks (starting the end of May or early June through August)
• Previous applicable internships
• Self-starter
• High level of computer skills (Microsoft Applications and Internet)
