Job Summary

The Engineering Co-Op is a part-time position designed for a current student to gain hands-on experience in the mining industry while working under the guidance of experienced engineering professional. The Engineering Co-Op will assist in tasks across the plant, supporting maintenance, electrical, and other departments. Outside of work hours, the Co-Op student is enrolled in an approved technical program to enhance skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Gain hands-on experience in a mining and manufacturing environment by supporting a variety of operational and technical activities.
• Work alongside experienced employees to learn plant and mine processes, equipment, systems, and daily operations.
• Assist with projects and activities related to operations, maintenance, safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
• Help identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, safety, and equipment performance.
• Participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities with cross-functional teams.
• Support preventative maintenance, housekeeping, and other site programs as needed.
• Complete assigned tasks safely and in accordance with company procedures, policies, and regulations.
• Promote a safe work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Comply with applicable health, safety, environmental, and food safety requirements.
• Perform other duties and project work as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Currently enrolled in a community college, technical program, or bachelor’s degree program.
• Basic math, reading, writing, and computer skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to manage assigned responsibilities.
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain a strong focus on safety.
• Comfortable working in an industrial and/or mine environment with varying temperatures and conditions.
• Ability to perform physical activities associated with the work environment, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds as required.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including steel-toed shoes and safety glasses.
• Ability to work at heights when required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Work Environment 

Field work will include underground and surface industrial environment where potential dust, high temperatures, and other industrial and mine related hazards may be encountered.
