Emerging Fraud Researcher

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Emerging Fraud Researcher based in United States.

This role focuses on identifying new and evolving fraud behaviors across voice, messaging, and email channels.
You’ll investigate emerging threats by analyzing large-scale traffic, industry trends, and billions of events with advanced AI tools.
The position combines independent research with hands-on collaboration across data science, engineering, and security teams.
You’ll help develop machine learning models and proactive mitigation strategies that protect customers and strengthen platform integrity.
A key part of the role is uncovering novel fraud patterns, testing network vulnerabilities, and reducing exposure to systemic abuse.
You’ll also lead investigations into high-impact incidents and translate complex findings into practical recommendations.
This is a remote opportunity for an experienced fraud, trust and safety, or security professional who enjoys solving complex problems at scale.

Accountabilities:

• Conduct independent research using AI-powered tools to identify novel and emerging fraud trends across voice, messaging, and email.
• Analyze large-scale messaging and voice traffic to uncover new patterns of fraudulent activity, including Artificial Intelligence Traffic (AIT) and account takeover (ATO).
• Work closely with data scientists to develop and refine machine learning models capable of detecting fraudulent behaviors at scale.
• Continuously stress-test network environments to identify vulnerabilities, weaknesses, and opportunities for proactive protection.
• Design and execute fraud mitigation strategies that protect customers, strengthen platform integrity, and minimize risk exposure.
• Collaborate with data science and engineering teams to improve detection capabilities and reduce false positives.
• Lead or support in-depth investigations into high-impact fraud incidents, conducting root-cause analysis and developing actionable recommendations.
• Monitor evolving industry trends in fraud, bot detection, and related forms of platform abuse to strengthen defensive capabilities.
• Translate complex fraud and security findings into clear, actionable strategies for technical teams and executive stakeholders.
• Build proactive approaches to identifying emerging threats before they develop into broader systemic risks.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in fraud investigations, trust and safety, security analysis, or a closely related field within a high-growth technology environment or large-scale distributed systems.
• Advanced experience with complex data analysis, SQL, and data visualization tools, with the ability to query large datasets and identify previously unseen fraud behaviors or systemic abuse.
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing proactive fraud mitigation strategies that protect platforms, customers, and network integrity.
• Strong experience leading cross-functional incident response and communicating complex security or fraud risks to both technical and executive stakeholders.
• Ability to conduct independent research, identify patterns in ambiguous datasets, and turn findings into practical security and fraud-prevention actions.
• Familiarity with machine learning concepts and their application to fraud detection is highly valued.
• Experience in CPaaS, telecommunications, payments, or similarly complex digital ecosystems is a plus.
• Relevant professional certifications such as Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are advantageous.
• Strong analytical, investigative, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Comfortable working remotely and collaborating across technical and business functions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and meet applicable employment eligibility requirements.
• Remote work is available throughout the United States, except for California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for project meetings, team gatherings, or other in-person business activities.

• Published salary ranges for eligible locations include:
  • Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.: $171,120–$213,900.
  • New York, New Jersey, Washington State, and California outside the San Francisco Bay Area: $181,200–$226,500.
  • San Francisco Bay Area, California: $201,280–$251,600.
