Overview

Summary/ ObjectiveThe Field Supervisor I – Turnaround Group is responsible for leading and coordinating industrial cleaning operations during refinery, petrochemical, and terminal turnarounds, shutdowns, and outages. This position provides hands-on field leadership in fast-paced, high-risk environments and oversees the safe, efficient, and timely execution of hydro blasting, chemical cleaning, tank cleaning, vacuum services, and other industrial cleaning activities. The Field Supervisor I – Turnaround Group coordinates multiple crews, personnel, equipment, and other project resources to support daily work plans and turnaround schedules. This role works closely with project leadership, customers, Crew Leaders, and field personnel to monitor job progress, address operational challenges, respond to changing work scopes and priorities, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer expectations. Success in this position requires strong field leadership, sound judgment, effective communication, and the ability to maintain productivity and make timely decisions in demanding turnaround environments with compressed schedules and changing conditions. All work must be performed in accordance with company and customer procedures, safety standards, and applicable environmental requirements. A minimum of five or more years of relevant industrial cleaning within refining, petrochemical or oil and gas facilities experience is required as well as two or more years of supervisory experience, preferably in turnaround/shutdown environments. In addition, the Field Supervisor I – Turnaround Group must have the ability and willingness to travel as needed to support turnaround projects and customer requirements.

Responsibilities

Execute assigned work scopes during turnarounds, shutdowns, and outages within strict timelines.2. Coordinate multiple crews across various units (e.g. process units, tanks, exchangers).3. Review turnaround work packages, schedules, and job plan prior to execution.4. Participate in pre-turnaround planning meetings (P6 scheduling interface, if applicable).5. Adjust to rapidly changing priorities, scope additions, and schedule impacts.6. Supervise workforce performance on the following tasks, including but not limited to, high-pressure hydro blasting and water jetting, chemical cleaning and circulation, tank cleaning and degassing, and vacuum truck and solids removal operations.7. Ensure proper sequence of work to avoid delays or conflicts with other contractors.8. Drive productivity to meet aggressive turnaround milestones and deadlines.9. Verify correct equipment setup, operations, and teardown under compressed schedules.10. Enforce strict compliance with plant safety rules, OSHA standards, and turnaround specific protocols.11. Lead daily and shift-based safety meetings, toolbox talks, and JSAs/JHAs.12. Monitor fatigue management due to long hours and extended shifts.13. Oversee critical safety activities such as confined space entry, lockout/tagout (LOTO), line breaking, and working at heights.14. Immediately address and escalate safety risks in a densely populated contractor environment.15. Lead and supervise large, rotating crews (including day/night shifts).16. Manage labor allocation to meet surge demands typical of turnaround work.17. Ensure proper crew coverage for 24/7 operations.18. Train and mentor employees on procedures, safety, and site expectations.19. Maintain accountability for attendance and performance in a high-pressure setting.20. Act as on-site liaison with client turnaround coordinators, planners, and operation teams.21. Coordinate activities with other contractors to prevent conflicts or downtime.22. Attend shift turnover meetings and daily status briefings.23. Communicate job status, delays, and resource needs clearly and proactively.24. Represent the company professionally in a multi-contractor and highly visible environment.25. Manage equipment uptime in a 24/7 operational environment.26. Anticipate and resolve equipment or resource shortages before they impact schedules.27. Complete daily turnaround reports including, but not limited to, labor hours and crew assignments, equipment usage, job progress and completion status, and safety observations and incidents.28. Track productivity against turnaround schedule milestones.29. Provide regular updates to Operations Management and turnaround leadership teams.30. Maintain professionalism, sound judgment, and focus while working under compressed schedules, changing priorities, adverse conditions, and other demands common to turnaround environments.31. Attend and successfully complete all training, certifications, orientations, and other requirements established by the Company or customer.32. Meet all applicable Company and customer requirements, including required drug and alcohol testing and background screening.33. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position will have supervisory responsibilities.

Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a petrochechemical / refinery environment. Exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months. Exposure to noise, workers must wear protecting hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. In an emergency situation, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur and the use of a respirator is required. All employees will be required to be fit tested for the various respirators used as well as the ability to successfully pass a pulmonary function test (PFT).

Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.The position of a Field Supervisor I – Turnaround Group can be extremely physical at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required, and for long periods of time to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit, hand strength and dexterity. A Field Supervisor I – Turnaround Group will frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift more than 51 pounds. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must be able to work at heights and be able to climb ladders and stairways and work off platforms. Move about on hands and feet, bending body downward and forward bending leg and spine- working in a bent over position. Ability to verbally communicate alarms or warnings clearly, concisely, loudly, and quickly. Clearly and quickly hear or otherwise sense alarms or warning and take appropriate action, maintain equilibrium to prevent falling when moving, walking, standing, kneeling or crouching- particularly on narrow, uneven, irregular, slippery surfaces, going up and down ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles or other objects using hands, arms, feet or legs. Position Type/ Expected Hours of WorkThis is a project- based position. Typical days and hours of work are variable/ project dependent. Over-time work is common and may be required as job duties demand.

TravelTravel is expected. Extensive travel throughout U.S. and overnight stay for extended periods of time may be required of this position.

Qualifications

Required Education and ExperienceHigh School diploma or GED. Five or more years of experience in industrial cleaning within refining, petrochemical, or oil and gas facilities. Two or more years of supervisory experience, preferably in turnaround/shutdown environments. Proven experience working in turnaround/outage settings with compressed schedules. Strong knowledge of hydro blasting, chemical cleaning, vacuum services, and tank cleaning. Must have a valid TWIC and valid Driver’s License. Safety Essentials.Preferred Education and ExperienceOSHA 30, NCCER, Confined Space Entry certification, HAZWOPER (24 or 40), Hydro Blasting certification (WJTA), LOTO and line breaking training (site specific) preferred.
