The Direct Support Professional provides direct care and training to participants to enhance their daily living, social, and communication skills. Responsibilities include assisting with personal hygiene, administering medications, maintaining financial records, and documenting participant progress and behaviors.

The Direct Support Professional will work with participants in residential group homes, residential waiver homes, and day services.
Requirements
1.Maintain reliable transportation available for use during working hours, valid driver's license and provide proof of automobile liability coverage (insurance).
2.Possess ability to maintain flexible schedule to meet the demands of the department.
3.Maintain good hygiene.
4.Possess ability to assist with full spectrum of participant’s personal care needs.
5.Possess the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
6.Possess the ability to use tact and empathy when dealing with people of varied backgrounds.
7.Possess the ability to establish effective working relationships.
8.Possess the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
9.Be computer literate.
10.Accept responsibility and demonstrate leadership.
11.Be able to multitask effectively in a sometimes fast paced environment.
Education and/or Experience:
High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred. One-year experience working with participants with developmental disabilities and one year of driving experience is required, three years preferred.
Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:
Medication Administration: Core A and Core B
CPR/First Aid.
Physical Demands:
The employee must be able to perform the essential duties of this job.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate but occasionally loud. Use of Personal Protective Equipment such as vinyl or latex gloves is occasionally required.
