The Work You Will Do:

OPS Internship – Bridge Maintenance | Operations | Bridge Structures Maintenance Office (DSMO)

This Internship position will work under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer to help in the improvement and creation of processes as it relates to structures management and analysis.

The Office seeks a talented individual that is eager to learn and to provide ideas to increase efficiency and improve customer service.

The DSMO is responsible for the management of all Bridge and Ancillary Structures within Miami Dade and Monroe Counties.

Our office performs engineering activities such as structural inspections, structures analysis, and repairs and maintenance. We use several data management tools to evaluate, and program work needs to maintain the bridge infrastructure in good and reliable conditions.

The Intern will be exposed to technical and managerial situations and acquire professional skills that are transferable to any engineering and project management jobs.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

The Intern will participate in engineering activities to help:

• Improve the efficiency of Structures Field Reviews and Inspection
• Improve data processing and management
• Evaluate and provide ideas for the improvement of current GIS applications
• Create and update Excel Macros to generate reports for data analysis and project planning
• Assist in the update and creation of project and contracts cost estimates
• Complete data research and generate recommendations reports
• Initiate recommendations for process improvements
• Participate in field inspections and reviews to acquire hands on knowledge of the work performed
• Participate in technical and management meetings to understand the mission and goals of the SDMO

The Successful Candidate will have the following:

Students in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Bridge Inspection/Management, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; junior, senior, or graduate student; minimum GPA 3.0

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide identification supporting citizenship or authority to work for the duration of program participation.
• Participants are required to comply with all statutes and rules and the

Department’s policies, procedures, regulations, and Code of Ethics.
