The Opportunity

Idera is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director, Worldwide Tax to lead our global tax function.

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Director will be responsible for Idera’s worldwide tax strategy and execution, including international and domestic tax, tax accounting, transfer pricing, indirect tax, M&A, legal entity structuring, and compliance.

The Director will lead a team of four tax professionals and manage relationships with Big Four firms and other tax advisors around the world. This is a highly visible role requiring someone who can develop tax strategy, solve complex international tax issues, partner with senior business leaders, and ensure strong execution across a complex global organization.

We are looking for a business-oriented tax leader who combines deep technical expertise with a willingness to use AI, automation, and modern technology to make the tax function faster, smarter, and more scalable.

Key Responsibilities

Global Tax Strategy & Leadership

• Lead Idera’s worldwide tax function, including U.S. federal, state and local, international, transfer pricing, and indirect taxes.
• Develop and execute tax strategies to appropriately manage global cash taxes, effective tax rate, tax risk, and compliance.
• Serve as the principal tax advisor to the CFO and Finance leadership team on significant business decisions and transactions.
• Monitor global tax developments and proactively assess their impact on Idera’s businesses, legal entities, cash flows, and financial statements.
• Partner closely with Accounting, Treasury, Legal, Corporate Development, and international finance teams.
• Lead, develop, and mentor the internal tax team and effectively manage external tax advisors worldwide.

International Tax & Structuring

• Lead international tax planning and compliance across Idera’s global operations.
• Manage and optimize Idera’s worldwide legal entity and tax structure, including restructuring and entity rationalization.
• Manage U.S. international tax matters, including foreign tax credits, E&P, GILTI, FDII, and other applicable cross-border provisions.
• Oversee global transfer pricing strategy, documentation, intercompany arrangements, and compliance.
• Manage tax requirements across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and other international jurisdictions.

M&A

• Serve as the tax lead for acquisitions and other strategic transactions.
• Lead tax due diligence, transaction structuring, modeling, and assessment of tax risks and opportunities.
• Partner with Corporate Development, Legal, Finance, and outside advisors to develop tax-efficient transaction structures.
• Lead the tax integration of acquired businesses, including legal entities, transfer pricing, indirect taxes, compliance, tax attributes, and reporting.

Tax Accounting, Compliance & Indirect Tax

• Oversee the global income tax provision and related tax accounting under U.S. GAAP.
• Manage federal, state, local, and international income tax compliance, including returns, estimated payments, elections, and information reporting.
• Develop and maintain reliable cash-tax forecasts for Finance and Treasury leadership.
• Lead global indirect tax matters, including U.S. sales and use tax and international VAT/GST.
• Evaluate nexus and other jurisdictional requirements and ensure appropriate registrations and compliance.
• Coordinate with external tax firms to ensure high-quality, timely, and cost-effective delivery of services.

Tax Audits & Risk Management

• Lead U.S. federal and state tax audits and oversee international tax audits and inquiries.
• Identify material tax risks and develop appropriate strategies to address and mitigate those risks.
• Research complex tax issues, document conclusions, and clearly communicate recommendations and business implications to senior management.
• Maintain effective tax policies, documentation, processes, and internal controls.

AI, Automation & Tax Transformation

• Build a modern, technology-enabled global tax function that can scale with Idera’s growth.
• Identify opportunities to apply AI, automation, and data analytics to tax research, compliance, forecasting, reconciliations, reporting, and planning.
• Use AI-enabled tools to improve the speed and quality of tax analysis while maintaining appropriate review, confidentiality, and controls.
• Partner with Finance and technology teams to improve access to tax data and reduce manual processes.
• Continuously challenge existing processes and identify opportunities to simplify, automate, and improve how the tax organization operates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
• CPA strongly preferred; MST or other relevant advanced degree is a plus.
• 8+ years of progressive tax experience, including significant U.S. corporate and international tax experience.
• Strong technical knowledge of U.S. federal and international taxation, including GILTI, FDII, foreign tax credits, E&P, and related reporting.
• Experience with multinational businesses, global transfer pricing, intercompany arrangements, and cross-border transactions.
• Strong understanding of ASC 740 and the tax impacts on U.S. GAAP financial statements.
• Experience with state and local income taxes and indirect taxes.
• M&A tax due diligence, structuring, and integration experience strongly preferred.
• Public accounting experience, particularly with a Big Four or national accounting firm, preferred.
• Software, SaaS, technology, or other multinational corporate experience preferred.
• Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.
• Experience with CCH Axcess / ProSystem fx Tax, Sage Intacct, or similar tax and ERP platforms is a plus.
• Experience using AI, automation, analytics, or emerging technology within tax or finance is highly valued.
