Description: What you'll be doing

Another Source's client, University of California, Davis, is recruiting a Director, Technology and Business Enablement Team to join their Continuing and Professional Education team in Davis, California. This hybrid role is onsite two days per week, with a third onsite day as needed for CPE meetings. Internally, this position is titled Director, Business Enablement Team

UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is the university’s academic division dedicated to workforce and career development, helping working professionals upskill, reskill, and advance their careers. CPE brings the expertise and resources of UC Davis to learners around the world through partnerships with campus schools, colleges, faculty, employers, government agencies, and international universities. 

The scale and reach of CPE create an especially dynamic environment for technology and business enablement leadership. The division records nearly 74,000 enrollments annually across more than 4,400 classes, serving learners in all 50 states and more than 100 countries. CPE also manages UC Davis’ relationship with Coursera, which has generated more than one million enrollments, and supports approximately 180 employees, more than 60 student employees during peak periods, and approximately 1,700 instructors.  

The salary range for this role is $160,000 –190,000 per year with relocation support available.  

About this role: 

Reporting to the Chief Operations and People Officer, the Director of the Business Enablement Team (BET) is an opportunity to shape how technology, data, projects, and emerging capabilities enable CPE’s continued evolution. 

This leader will oversee a multidisciplinary team spanning technology strategy and solution design, systems and application development, data and business intelligence, portfolio and project management, technology support and operations, and governance and innovation. With responsibility for a complex ecosystem of enterprise applications, cloud platforms, learning technologies, integrated data services, cybersecurity, AI, and emerging technologies, the Director will translate organizational priorities into scalable solutions that improve effectiveness, enable innovation, and support CPE’s learners, instructors, staff, and partners.  

This position offers the opportunity to bring together technology, data, business intelligence, project delivery, and organizational enablement within a mission-driven university environment - while influencing how CPE uses emerging technologies and AI to support its future. 

How you will spend your time 

Leadership, Governance & Organizational Effectiveness – 25% 

• Provide strategic leadership for the Business Enablement Team across technology, systems and applications, data and business intelligence, portfolio and project management, technology operations, and innovation.  

• Establish goals, priorities, performance measures, and service standards aligned with CPE’s strategic direction.  

• Lead workforce planning, staff development, succession planning, budget management, and resource allocation.  

• Build governance frameworks, operational policies, risk-management practices, and decision structures that strengthen accountability and organizational effectiveness.  

• Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on technology, data, operational excellence, and strategic investments.  

• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, continuous improvement, inclusion, and service excellence.  

Strategic Technology & Digital Transformation Leadership – 20% 

• Establish and advance CPE’s long-term technology roadmap and digital transformation strategy. 

• Guide enterprise architecture, systems integration, application portfolio management, and technology investment decisions.  

• Evaluate AI, automation, emerging technologies, and evolving business needs for opportunities to improve the organization.  

• Ensure technology capabilities can scale with CPE’s growth while supporting learner success and workforce effectiveness.  

• Represent the division in campus, UC-wide, and external technology initiatives.  

Portfolio, Program & Change Management – 20% 

• Provide executive sponsorship and oversight for strategic initiatives, technology projects, process improvements, and organizational change programs.  

• Monitor capacity, dependencies, project risks, and outcomes across the portfolio.  

• Guide change-management strategies that help people successfully adopt new systems, technologies, and business processes.  

• Keep investments focused on measurable business value and divisional priorities.  

Data Strategy, Analytics & Decision Support – 15% 

• Establish data governance, analytics, and reporting strategies that strengthen decision-making.  

• Ensure leaders have access to reliable dashboards, performance metrics, reporting tools, and business intelligence.  

• Guide long-term planning for data architecture, warehousing, analytics platforms, and institutional reporting.  

• Identify opportunities to leverage predictive analytics, forecasting, operational intelligence, and AI-enabled insights.  

Business Enablement Consulting & Stakeholder Engagement – 15% 

• Partner with divisional leaders to identify opportunities for process redesign, operational improvement, technology adoption, and service enhancement.  

• Translate business objectives into actionable technology, data, and organizational initiatives.  

• Build productive partnerships across UC Davis, the broader UC system, and external organizations.  

• Facilitate executive-level conversations around investments, priorities, organizational readiness, and strategic opportunities.  

• Serve as a senior connection between CPE business units and Business Enablement Team leadership.  

Administrative Management – 5% 

• Oversee departmental budgets, contracts, procurement, vendor relationships, and resource planning.  

• Monitor organizational performance, compliance, audits, and operational effectiveness.  

• Support additional strategic initiatives in partnership with the Chief Operations and People Officer.  

Minimum Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Business Administration, Public Administration, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  

• Progressive leadership experience overseeing technology, data, business intelligence, project management, or related operational functions.  

• Experience managing professional staff, organizational resources, budgets, and vendor relationships.  

• Experience leading enterprise initiatives involving technology, process improvement, organizational transformation, or service delivery.  

• Demonstrated strength in strategic planning, staff development, performance management, and resource stewardship.  

• Working knowledge of enterprise technology, data management, business intelligence, project management, and service delivery principles.  

• Ability to assess complex organizational challenges, develop effective solutions, and lead change across diverse stakeholder groups.  

Preferred Qualifications 

• Master’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Public Administration, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.  

• Experience in higher education, continuing and professional education, workforce development, or another complex, mission-driven organization.  

• Experience leading enterprise technology, digital transformation, business intelligence, portfolio management, or organizational change initiatives.  

• Knowledge of enterprise architecture, systems integration, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, technology governance, data governance, analytics, and reporting.  

• Ability to develop long-range strategies aligning technology, data, projects, and operations with organizational goals.  

• Experience fostering innovation and developing collaborative, high-performing teams in complex environments.  

• PMP, Agile, ITIL, Lean, Prosci Change Management, CDMP, or similar professional certification.
