About this Role

The Director of Safety owns Par West's safety standard and the integrity of the data the company makes decisions from. Reporting to the VP of Operational Performance, the role sets safety policy and program design, owns the field observation program and its quality standard, and drives every finding to verified closure with a named owner and a due date. Safety and Training operate as one partnership, not two entities: the Director of Safety and the Director of Training jointly determine the processes, systems, and data points the company runs on, so that what the field identifies becomes what the company teaches. Compliance with OSHA, DOT, and client prequalification requirements is the floor this role maintains — not the goal it is measured on.

What You'll Do

• Safety standards and policy — Own safety standards, policies, and program design across all operating regions.
• Observation program integrity — Own the design, quality standard, and integrity of the field observation program. Volume quotas are not used; observation quality is scored, audited monthly, and coached.
• Corrective action to closure — Own the corrective action lifecycle end to end. Every at-risk finding carries a named owner, a due date, and verified closure.
• Incident investigation — Own incident investigation and root cause analysis, and support operations through post-incident response.
• Regulatory compliance — Maintain compliance with OSHA 1910.269 and 1926 Subpart V, NFPA 70E, and DOT/FMCSA requirements.
• Client prequalification standing — Own the company’s safety standing in ISNetworld, Avetta, and Veriforce, and represent the company on safety at client meetings.
• Partnership with Training — Jointly determine, with the Director of Training, the processes, systems, and data points that govern how work is taught and verified. Safety identifies exposure and gaps; Training determines curriculum scope and competency standards; both own the result.
• Curriculum Review Board — Serve as a standing member, bringing field-identified exposure and observation themes into what gets taught next quarter.
• Observation Quality Review — Co-own the monthly review with the Director of Training so observation themes translate directly into curriculum.
• Field verification standard — Partner with the Director of Training so competence is confirmed on real work by a qualified evaluator, not by a classroom roster.
• Safety personnel in training delivery — Ensure regional safety advisors facilitate training delivery and reinforce the message in the field. Safety advisors do not set curriculum scope or competency standards.
• Regional safety standard — Own the standard regional safety personnel work to — the observation quality rubric, investigation methodology, and corrective action process — independent of administrative reporting line.
• Leading indicators and reporting — Own the safety content of the monthly KPI package: leading indicators, observation quality, corrective action closure, and trending the executive team can rely on.
• Non-punitive reporting — Steward the company’s non-punitive reporting policy. Observation quality audits are a coaching input, never evidence in an employee relations matter.
• Field presence — Regular job site visits across all regions. A substantial share of this role is spent on the job, not in an office.
• Team leadership — Lead, develop, and hold accountable the safety management team, and build the bench beneath it.
• Support to critical projects — Provide direct safety support on sensitive and high-exposure projects.
• All other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

• Demonstrated field credibility in construction
• 10 years of progressive safety experience, including responsibility across multiple crews or regions
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, or Engineering may substitute for up to 5 years of the safety experience requirement. A degree is not required for this role.
• Demonstrated credibility with field crews — the primary qualification for this role
• Utility construction, line, or civil field experience
• Safety leadership experience in a multi-region construction environment
• Working knowledge of OSHA 1910.269, 1926 Subpart V, NFPA 70E, and DOT/FMCSA requirements
• Experience owning corrective action to verified closure, not only documenting findings
• Ability to hold a standard with both operations leadership and the field, and be believed by both
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and maintain working relationships with employees, supervisory personnel, state and local officials, consultants and sub-contractors
• General understanding of environmental rules and regulations
• Computer proficiency (email, Microsoft Office, safety management and prequalification systems)

Pay- $ 170,000 - $190,000/ Annually  *Depending on Experience
