Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI) is a 25-year old 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to champion and advance the evidence-based Centering group model of care to transform how healthcare is practiced and experienced, empowering healthcare providers and patients to improve health outcomes. CHI partners with approximately 400+ provider organizations across the U.S. to implement and sustain its three Centering group models of care - CenteringPregnancy®, CenteringParenting ®, and CenteringHealthcare ®.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for the Director of Clinical Services is $120,000 to $125,000, based on the qualifications and years of relevant experience the selected candidate brings.

Position Summary 

The Clinical Director serves as CHI's senior clinical leader and subject matter expert, providing strategic guidance, clinical consultation, quality oversight, and implementation support to healthcare partners. The ideal candidate is an experienced healthcare leader with credentials as an APRN, NP, PA, MD, CNM, or other licensed healthcare professional. They possess deep expertise in maternal-child health, population health, healthcare transformation, provider engagement, and driving clinical practice improvements across diverse healthcare settings.

Essential Functions 

Clinical Leadership

• Provide strategic direction and clinical leadership to Centering sites, the Practice Transformation department, and the organization to support successful implementation, sustainability, and quality of the Centering model.
• Oversee day-to-day clinical and program operations, including budget management, program development, strategic planning, and operational decision-making.
• Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, person-centered care, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Partner with the leadership team to ensure high-quality service delivery and alignment with organizational goals, leveraging performance data to identify and implement process improvements that improve outcomes, efficiency, and service quality.

Practice Transformation and Implementation

• Support expansion efforts within existing partner organizations.
• Identify and drive innovative solutions to strengthen implementation processes, improve operational efficiency, and enhance partner experience.

Quality Improvement and Outcomes

• Develop and monitor quality improvement initiatives related to Centering implementation.
• Analyze program outcomes, patient experience measures, participation rates, and performance indicators.
• Monitor program and staff performance metrics and implement supportive actions or quality improvement initiatives as needed.
• Lead quality improvement activities and participate in audits, inspections, and accreditation reviews.
• Use data to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend corrective actions.
• Support evaluation and reporting efforts related to grants, contracts, and strategic initiatives.
• Collaborate with internal teams to track implementation experiences and organizational impact.

Partner Engagement and Consultation

• Develop relationships with clinical and operational leaders at partner organizations.
• Facilitate meetings with physicians, nurses, midwives, behavioral health professionals, and practice administrators.
• Provide guidance to Implementation Advisor team on clinical integration
• Support partners in addressing implementation challenges and achieving performance goals.
• Support business development initiatives, community outreach efforts, educational events, and relationship-building activities with referral sources and community partners.
• Design, develop, and continuously improve products and services to meet clinician needs and drive engagement.
• Lead the development and review of training materials and collateral, ensuring clinical accuracy and alignment with best practices.

Internal Collaboration

• Partner with organizational leadership to align services with strategic priorities and organizational values.
• Provide clinical expertise for proposals, presentations, educational materials, and partner-facing resources.
• Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, governmental agencies, and referral partners.
• Participate in organizational planning activities and strategic initiatives.
• Share best practices and lessons learned from implementation sites.
• Support development of new service offerings and clinical resources.
• Collaborate with Director of Grants & Contracts and Senior Manager of Philanthropy to secure additional funding by building proposals, new funder presentations, and additional grant collateral

Reporting Structure and Key Relationships

This role will report to the CEO, with a dotted line to the Chief Operating Officer + People & Culture.

Qualification and Requirements

Education: 

• Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Physician’s Assistant (PA), Doctor of Medicine (MD), or Doctor of Osteopathic (OD)
• Additional certifications in quality improvement, population health, maternal-child health, project management, or healthcare leadership are a plus.

Experience:

• 7+ years of health system experience or comparable, 
• Familiarity with Centering is preferred
• Experience working in maternal-child health, women's health, pediatrics, community health, primary care, FQHCs, health systems, or ambulatory care settings preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in implementation of science and the national dissemination of evidence-based programs and practices.
• Demonstrated experience educating, coaching, and influencing healthcare providers and clinical teams.
• Commitment to advancing equitable healthcare outcomes and improving access to high-quality care for underserved and marginalized populations.
• Experience interpreting clinical and operational data to improve patient outcomes and program performance.
• Strong understanding of healthcare delivery systems and value-based care models.
• Experience using outcome measures and performance data to drive improvement
