Position

Leading Educators is seeking a Director of Accounting, Grants & Contracts to own the full lifecycle of our philanthropic, foundation, and government funding. As grant and contract revenue continues to grow as a share of our total funding, this role manages how we budget, track, report on, and maintain compliance with restricted funds—from proposal development through award closeout.

You'll be the primary point of contact between Development and Finance, translating complex grant agreements and funder requirements into clear, workable budgets and financial systems. You'll ensure Leading Educators stays compliant with grant and contract requirements, including federal requirements under 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance). Your work directly enables us to pursue and manage an increasingly complex portfolio of philanthropic and contract funding.

Currently, Leading Educators manages grants tracking in spreadsheets. You'll lead the effort to identify, select, and implement a grants management system that replaces manual processes with scalable, automated workflows—streamlining how we forecast, track, and close out grants across the organization.

Do you have expertise in…

• Managing the full post-award lifecycle for federal, state, and private foundation grants and contracts, including setup, cost-reimbursement processing, drawdowns, invoicing, and financial reporting?
• Interpreting grant agreements, fiscal tracking, and funder reporting requirements, with demonstrated knowledge of 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance) and indirect cost rate negotiations?
• Leading the selection or implementation of financial management systems, or standardizing financial processes from manual, spreadsheet-based workflows into scalable, automated systems?
• Building strong partnerships with Development and fundraising teams, including hands-on experience developing proposal budgets and translating funder requirements into clear organizational guidance?

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
• Minimum 8 years of nonprofit accounting and finance experience, including substantial experience managing multi-year, multi-funder, and federal/state grants and contracts
• Demonstrated ability to independently build relationships with Development or fundraising teams and lead proposal budget development
• Deep expertise in interpreting grant agreements, fiscal tracking, and funder reporting, including federal compliance under 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance)
• Proven track record leading the selection or implementation of a grants management system, or standardizing financial processes from manual to automated workflows
• Strong technical skills with financial systems and data tools (e.g., SageIntacct, Salesforce, Rippling)
• Strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit revenue recognition rules, and indirect cost allocation methodology
• Authorization to work for any employer in the United States

Travel Requirements

• This is a remote position requires 2 to 5 amount of trips a year
• National travel for org retreats, programming, job related travel, or professional development 
• Outside of the above mentioned travel, this person will work from a home office that must be located anywhere within the U.S.

Benefits

• Compensation: 
  • If hired for this position, the base salary range is $106,000 to $144,000 per year. Most new hires enter the range at a specific point based on their qualifications and the role level. For this position, the standard starting salary is $125,354, which is based on meeting the minimum requirement of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • If you have more than 8 years of directly relevant experience, your starting salary may be adjusted higher within the range, up to a maximum starting salary of $133,413. This approach ensures that candidates with additional experience beyond the minimum are recognized in the initial salary offer.
• Benefits:
  • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for individual employees. Additional premium costs are covered 60% by Leading Educators for partners and dependents on medical, dental, and vision plans. 4% matching 401k plan, Flexible Spending Accounts for medical, childcare and commuter expenses, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Benefits are valued at or above $9,000 for employees.
• Time Off: 
  • First three years of employment, full time staff accrue 22 days a year. 
  • Five additional days are accrued after the third and sixth year of employment.
  • Leading Educators also offer 16 additional paid days off for various holidays, including three floating holidays staff may use at their discretion.
