Position Overview
Repair the World is seeking a highly skilled writer and project manager to serve as Director, Institutional Giving. This role leads the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals and reports while managing the systems and processes that support Repair the World’s institutional fundraising.

The Director, Institutional Giving serves as the organization’s lead grant writer, responsible for mission-driven storytelling and institutional fundraising. Repair the World’s institutional grant portfolio totals approximately $13M annually. This role translates Repair the World’s programs, impact, and vision into compelling narratives for foundation partners while ensuring institutional supporters receive clear, timely communication about our work and impact.

In addition to overseeing the organization’s grants infrastructure, the Director will supervise the Donor Communications Manager and help align donor storytelling across proposals, reports, and broader development communications. Working closely with colleagues across programs, finance, data, marketing, and development, this role ensures strong internal coordination and high-quality grant deliverables.

This full-time, exempt position reports to the Senior Director, Development, and supervises the Donor Communications Manager. The Director will be a member of Repair the World’s seven-person Development team. This is a remote position with a preference for candidates living in or near a Repair community: Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Los Angeles, CA; Miami, FL; New York, NY; Orange County, CA; or San Francisco, CA.

Position Responsibilities

Grant Writing and Reporting (55%)

• Serve as the lead grant writer for the organization, drafting, editing, and submitting foundation proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant reports.
• Translate Repair the World’s programs, impact, and priorities into clear, compelling narratives aligned with funder interests.
• Collaborate with program, evaluation, finance, and leadership staff to gather content, outcomes data, and financial information for proposals and reports.
• Ensure timely submission of all grant deliverables and maintain high standards of clarity, accuracy, and storytelling.
• Adapt core organizational language to reflect funder priorities while maintaining Repair the World’s voice and values.
• Manage relationships with external grant writing consultants as needed.

Grants Management and Systems (10%)

• Maintain and regularly communicate a comprehensive grants calendar covering proposals, reports, renewals, and stewardship updates.
• Develop and maintain clear internal processes for grant development and reporting across development, program, and finance teams.
• Coordinate internal inputs for grant submissions, including budgets, narratives, outcomes, and required attachments.
• Maintain organized grant records and documentation to support institutional knowledge, compliance, and learning.

Institutional Stewardship and Communications (10%)

• Support stewardship communications for institutional supporters, including written updates, impact materials, and narrative assets.
• Partner with frontline fundraisers to ensure institutional donors receive timely and meaningful communication about Repair the World’s programs and impact.

Supervision and Donor Communications Oversight (15%)

• Supervise the Donor Communications Manager, providing direction, feedback, and professional development support.
• Review and guide donor communications materials to ensure alignment across grant proposals, donor updates, and broader development messaging.
• Foster strong coordination between grants and donor storytelling functions.

Institutional Donor Portfolio (10%)

• Manage a small portfolio of national foundation partners, supporting stewardship and proposal development in collaboration with senior development staff.

• Institutional Relationship Management: Ability to support meaningful, ongoing communication with foundation partners, ensuring funders receive timely, high-quality updates on Repair’s programs and impact.

Position Requirements and Skills

• 7+ years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit development, writing, or a related field
• Demonstrated success in writing and managing foundation grant proposals and reports
• Experience writing grant proposals in the $50,000 to $1,000,000+ range
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Experience supervising staff and supporting professional growth
• Experience with Salesforce or a comparable CRM system
• Familiarity with donor research tools and project management platforms preferred

Compensation

Compensation at Repair the World is based on the salary band for the role and the cost of living for the location. The starting salary for this full-time, exempt role is $90,000 - $115,000, dependent on experience. Benefits package includes paid time off for service in addition to vacation, sick time, personal days, and holidays. Employer covers 100% of full-time employees’ health premiums (medical/dental/vision) for most plans and 50% for dependents. Additional benefits include retirement matching, professional development funds, employer-paid short and long-term disability coverage, plus access to the Jewish Learning Collaborative and our Economic Access Fund. In addition, employees who have been with Repair for at least six months are eligible for 16 weeks of paid parental leave (pro-rated for employees with Repair the World less than 6 months).

This position is not included in Repair the World’s staff union-represented collective bargaining unit.

Application Process

• Candidates should submit a resume and a writing sample from a grant proposal or report they authored.
  • Writing samples of approximately 4–8 pages are ideal. If the document was part of a collaborative submission, please indicate your role in preparing the sample.
• Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
• Selected candidates will be invited to a screening interview.
• Candidates advancing from the initial conversation will be invited to complete a brief written assignment (approximately 30–60 minutes) designed to illustrate their grant writing approach and ability to translate programmatic information into a compelling narrative. Candidates will receive clear instructions and background materials for the assignment.
• Top candidates will interview with members of the Development Team and other internal stakeholders. Finalists will interview in-person with members of the Leadership Team.
• Three professional references will be requested before the final round of the interview process.
