Position Summary: 

The Recycling Partnership is seeking an experienced Director of Financial Planning and Analysis to lead high-impact initiatives and partner closely with program leaders across all service delivery programs, blended functional areas, and internal support operations. This role partners closely with executive leadership and business unit teams to improve financial outcomes, strengthen operational discipline, and enhance reporting visibility. The Director will own budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and operational planning to drive strategic decision-making and support measurable organizational impact.

To accomplish these objectives, the Director will analyze revenue streams, develop key performance indicators to assess programmatic impact, automate reporting through our enterprise financial planning platform, and serve as the operational lead for investment-related planning, liquidity management, and oversight of external investment firms.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this role requires a blend of financial expertise, strategic thinking, hands-on execution, and the ability to influence senior leadership, offering the unique opportunity to shape the future of Finance at The Recycling Partnership.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Financial Planning and Analysis

• Lead the annual operating budget, rolling forecasts, long-range financial planning, and scenario modeling to drive predictability and strategic alignment.
• Lead the monthly financial analysis and business planning work streams, delivering high-quality financial analyses and proactively anticipating business needs.
• Forecast transactional and recurring revenue streams while tracking gross activity metrics, including program dollars deployed, grant dollars awarded, and capital invested in communities.
• Review funding agreements and monitor restricted fund balances to support and strengthen analysis and forecasting outcomes.

 Systems, Reporting, and Process Improvement

• Own the enterprise financial planning platform, utilizing data mapping tools to automate reporting and visualize KPIs within an Excel native environment.
• Develop executive-ready reporting dashboards, summaries, and performance updates to track trends, highlight variances, and recommend actions to improve outcomes.
• Develop actionable management reports, with end-user needs in mind, to clarify operational performance and system impact.
• Collaborate with the Controller and accounting team to align financial processes and ensure accurate, timely monthly reporting using automated consolidation tools and Sage Intacct integrations.
• Partner with business leaders to map key systems and end-to-end processes, manage ambiguity, identify root causes of inefficiencies, and drive alignment on prioritized opportunities.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and reporting capabilities.

Cross-Functional Leadership and Strategic Partnership

• Act as a key partner to program leadership and strategic engagement, fostering collaborative relationships and supporting revenue attainment and expense management strategies.
• Promote financial transparency and literacy across the organization, empowering department leaders to independently manage their budgets, optimize resources, and make informed financial decisions.
• Partner with senior leadership on cross-functional initiatives and organizational priorities.
• Provide the CFO, CEO, and board committees with operational insights to inform high-stakes executive decisions.
• Partner with the Development team to shape pricing models and drive accountability via core business development key performance indicators, including revenue growth, time to close, and gross margin, to improve execution and outcomes.
• Support the accounting team through collaborative coaching, accountability, and professional growth.
• Influence outcomes across the organization without building large, centralized teams, fostering strong analytical rigor, collaboration, and professional growth.

 Risk, Change, and Investment Management

• Serve as the operational lead for investment-related planning, reporting, and liquidity management, providing oversight for external investment firms conducting actual trading activities.
• Identify risks, dependencies, and change impacts while proactively managing mitigation strategies and guiding change management efforts to ensure sustainable implementation.

Required Qualifications: 

• Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
• Must live and work in Eastern or Central time zone.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in financial planning, financial analysis, and operational planning.
• Proven experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives in a matrixed organization with a high level of judgment, accountability, and ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments.
• Proven experience forecasting transactional and recurring revenue models, with strong financial modeling skills for pricing and margin analysis.
• Experience developing and analyzing operational metrics, building business cases, evaluating tradeoffs, and driving data-informed decisions.
• Ability to accurately model program costs and evaluate complex revenue streams.
• Exceptional executive communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex topics, influence senior stakeholders, and partner effectively with non-financial stakeholders.
• High integrity, strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a mission-driven, collaborative mindset.

Preferred Skills: 

• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• Experience in a mid-sized or large nonprofit organization with complex funding streams and multi-department operations.
• Understanding of nonprofit financial management and accounting requirements, including grants and restricted funding models.
• Experience with investment-related planning, managing liquidity, and external investment firm oversight.
• Advanced proficiency with financial systems, reporting tools, and advanced Excel, with specific expertise in the Sage Intacct financial system and its integration capabilities.
• Deep expertise administering cloud based financial planning software, data platforms, and AI native finance operating systems.
• Experience working in complex, fast-paced, and evolving organizations with the ability to balance accuracy, compliance, and operational agility.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills within high-performing finance and accounting teams.
• Familiarity with the recycling and solid waste industry a plus.

 This position may require overnight and out-of-state travel for business activities.
