Director Commissioning - Gas Power Generation

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Blattner is seeking a Director of Construction to join our growing Gas Power Generation team.  The Director of Commissioning is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the entire commissioning process across multiple projects within the organization, including developing strategic commissioning plans, managing commissioning teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver projects on time and within budget.

STEP INTO THE ROLE

• Oversees all aspects of the commissioning process, including functional performance testing, system balancing, and operational testing.
• Develops and implements comprehensive commissioning strategies aligned with organizational goals and project requirements.
• Establishes commissioning standards and best practices across the company.
• Collaborates with architects, engineers, contractors, project managers, and other stakeholders throughout the commissioning process.
• Monitors commissioning activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Provides development of subordinate project managers and oversee the development of their subordinates, through performance evaluations (coaching and dashboard), mentoring, formal training, and planned exposure to diverse work experiences.  Qualifies candidates as possible successors.
• Collaborates with general superintendents and peer Director of Field Operations Commissioning, on selection of General Superintendents and site team to build a balanced team for a successful project. Manages functions including wage reviews, work assignments, bonus reviews, internal promotions, etc. 
• Assists Vice President with staying current on market conditions, including customers, competitors, subcontractors, commodities, construction processes/methods, contracting methods, etc.
• Effectively manages commissioning budgets and resource allocation.
• Develops detailed commissioning plans and schedules for each project. 
• Seeks development through feedback, new knowledge, opportunities for personal growth and development to include obtaining state licensing certifications.
• Communicates commissioning progress and findings to key decision-makers and escalates matters of significance to the organization up to executive leadership.
• Implements quality control measures to maintain high standards throughout the commissioning process.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

• Four-year construction management, engineering or related degree.
• This position will have five or more years of directly relevant experience with utility-scale natural gas power generation, heavy industrial, or EPC field execution.
• Strong understanding of construction engineering and design concepts.
• Understanding of electrical construction and power delivery.
• Conceptual skills and ability to develop thorough work plans and management schedule.
• Knowledge of estimating strategies and techniques.
• Expertise in relevant industry standards and regulations.
• Excellent written presentation and verbal communication skills.
• Strong leadership skills - ability to organize, utilize, and motivate team members quickly to respond to changes in the construction schedule.
• Conflict management skills required.
• Ability to strategically work within approved budget, conserves resources, and contributes to profits and revenue.
• Excellent organizational, supervisory and decision making/problem solving skills.
• Computer Skills required (Microsoft Office suite programs, Primavera, and CTC net).
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
• Extensive travel required.

WHAT SETS YOU APART

• Primary experience with reciprocating engine power plants, modular/skidded aeroderivative turbine installations, modular simple-cycle gas plants, and fuel cell power generation systems, including associated balance-of-plant, fuel gas systems, and interconnection scopes.
• Experience including combined-cycle (CCGT) gas power generation (heavy-frame turbines, HRSGs, steam turbine systems, cooling systems, and high-energy piping), larger-frame simple-cycle (OCGT) power generation, midstream oil and gas infrastructure (pipelines, compressor/pump stations, gas processing/treating facilities, gathering systems, gas storage, and terminal/tank farm facilities), and heavy industrial construction (e.g., petrochemical, refining, or other complex process facilities).
• PMP Certification.

$178,151.00 - $258,319.00 Individual Compensation to be determined based on the applicant's applicable experience and qualifications balanced against internal equity.
