Director, Coding Consulting - Cath Lab Charge Capture Audit

Summary:

Healthrise is seeking an experienced Director to lead a focused, short-term engagement supporting our client's Cath Lab charge capture function. This individual will serve as the subject matter expert conducting a comprehensive departmental audit of Cath Lab charging and coding practices, with particular attention to high-dollar items, to confirm charge capture is complete and accurate and that no charges have been missed. 

This Director will review charts at a standard audit-level capacity within the client's expected timeframe, deliver findings to client and Healthrise stakeholders and provide post-audit recommendations to strengthen ongoing charge capture practices. This engagement also supports a planned transition, as this resource will help ensure continuity of Cath Lab charge capture oversight ahead of the retirement of the client's current resource in this space. The client operates on Epic, so hands-on Epic experience is required. 

This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented professional who thrives under a compressed timeline, can move quickly into a complex specialty service line, and can translate audit findings into clear, actionable recommendations for the client. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform a comprehensive departmental audit of Cath Lab charge capture and coding practices for our client, with a specific focus on high-dollar items. 

• Review charts at a standard audit-level capacity, completing the review within the timeframe allotted by the engagement. 

• Confirm the Cath Lab has been performing charge capture accurately and identify any charges that have been “dropped” or missed. 

• Evaluate Charge Description Master (CDM) structure, charge capture workflows, and coding alignment with CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and payer-specific requirements as they relate to Cath Lab procedures. 

• Analyze documentation, coding patterns, and charge utilization within the Cath Lab to identify optimization opportunities and root causes of revenue variance. 

• Develop structured audit findings, gap analyses, and prioritized recommendations aligned to regulatory guidance and industry best practices. 

• Deliver post-audit recommendations to support sustained, accurate charge capture within the department going forward. 

• Partner with client operational leaders, revenue integrity teams, compliance, and clinical departments to support adoption of recommended changes. 

• Support continuity of Cath Lab charge capture oversight in connection with the retirement of the client's current resource. 

• Support development of executive-level summaries outlining financial impact, compliance exposure, and implementation roadmap. 

• Utilize Epic to validate charge logic, identify trends, and support data-driven recommendations. 

• Maintain project documentation including status updates, issue tracking, and mitigation strategies. 

• Travel to client site as required to support on-the-ground project execution.

Requirements

• Active CCS, CPC, or equivalent coding credential required. 

• CIRCC (Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder) certification strongly preferred. 

• Demonstrated hands-on coding and charge capture audit experience within the Cath Lab / interventional cardiology service line. 

• Prior experience leading or participating in charging assessments and CDM reviews. 

• Proficiency in Epic required. 

• Experience with Charge Description Master structure, maintenance practices, and charge capture workflows. 

• Ability to interpret data and translate audit findings into actionable operational recommendations within a compressed engagement timeline. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present findings to operational and executive stakeholders. 

• Ability to work independently and move quickly to meet an accelerated engagement start date. 

• Consulting experience strongly preferred but not required. 

• Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
