About the Role

Every shift is a chance to support someone’s independence, celebrate progress, and make everyday routines feel empowering. As a Direct Support Professional, you’ll provide respectful, hands-on support in residential homes and community settings while helping people live with dignity, choice, confidence, and connection.

• You’ll help people build daily living skills such as cooking, hygiene, household routines, and community participation.
• You’ll support personalized goals, Individual Support Plans, and Safety Plans in a way that honors each person’s choices and strengths.
• You’ll promote inclusion, independence, and confidence during everyday routines and community adventures.
• You’ll keep clear documentation so each person’s support team has accurate, timely information.

What You’ll Do

• Provide respectful, person-centered support with activities of daily living, skill development, recreation, and community involvement.
• Assist with medication administration, health-related documentation, and follow-through on physician or nursing orders after training.
• Recognize changes in health, behavior, or safety and respond calmly, promptly, and appropriately.
• Help maintain clean, organized, and safe home environments.
• Communicate with participants, coworkers, families, and community partners in a clear and professional way.
• Use basic computer systems for documentation, logs, emails, and incident reporting.
• Drive agency vehicles for appointments, errands, and outings when needed and in line with safety policies.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to pass required background checks.
• Valid Oregon driver’s license and an insurable driving record; driver must be over 21 and have at least 3 years of driving experience.
• Willingness to complete Edwards Center training, including Oregon Intervention System, First Aid/CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, and mandatory reporter training.
• Basic computer skills and a positive attitude toward learning new systems.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This is an active, hands-on role in residential homes and community settings. With or without reasonable accommodation, team members may need to:

• Walk and move frequently throughout homes and community locations.
• Assist with transfers, mobility equipment, and transportation needs.
• Lift or carry up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
• Bend, stoop, reach, kneel, push, or pull as part of daily support and household tasks.
• Hear, see, and communicate consistently to support safety and connection.
• Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of residential and weather conditions.
• Respond quickly and calmly to medical, behavioral, or safety situations.
