Digital Media and Public Scholarship Specialist, Hemispheric Institute

Position Summary

The Digital Media and Public Scholarship Specialist works with Director, Managing Director, NYU Libraries, and both internal and external partners to build and maintain the Hemispheric Institute Digital Video Library (HIDVL) and other digital collections. Organize and implement the acquisition, processing, and preservation of Hemispheric Institute digital resources, archives, and other assets, including HIDVL collection materials, event websites, and other online projects and resources. Collaborate closely with NYU Libraries’ staff to ensure consistency of technical formats, preservation, and accessibility standards as well as manage and troubleshoot any issues related to technical formats, copyrights and permissions, and related matters. Create and update HIDVL Collections Profiles and other multilingual online teaching materials, as necessary, as well as edit and organize written, visual, and pedagogical content (in English, Spanish, and Portuguese) in ways that facilitate research and enhance the usability of digital resources for broader publics. Works with NYU departments, faculty, and students, as well as external collaborators and partners organizations, to promote research and learning and extend the reach and utility of the Hemispheric Institute’s digital media collections and platforms. Engage and educate the Institute’s broad constituencies at NYU and beyond about Hemispheric Institute’s digital resources, and effectively disseminate these resources through events, pedagogical materials, and targeted communicational strategies. Expand access to Hemi digital media collections for NYU researchers, and outside collaborators in order to facilitate the creation of public scholarship based on the Institute’s collections and initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor's Degree in the Humanities, Social Sciences, or related fieldPreferred Education:Master's Degree in the Humanities, Social Sciences, or related fieldRequired Experience:3+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include experience working directly with digital assets and archives and communicating to university audiences as well as diverse national and international constituencies.Preferred Experience:1+ years Experience in the creation of pedagogical and curricular materials based on digital/archival collections.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Excellent communication and writing skills. Experience creating, managing, and growing digital media assets and archival collections. Written and oral fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese, including the ability to translate documents from or to English as appropriate. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to manage multiple projects with national and international partners concurrently. Proficiency in standard office productivity software.Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Broad knowledge or understanding of Latin American or/and Latinx culture, and politics, both with an Americas-wide frame and within specific local contexts. Experience developing and implementing social media campaigns. Working knowledge of video preservation methods and formats. Basic proficiency in website content creation with any of the major Content Management Systems. Proficiency in major languages of the Americas, such as Portuguese or Kreyòl. Demonstrated ability to lead teams to accomplish archive-related projects.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $77,000.00 to USD $88,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
