The Missouri Historical Society is accepting applications from current students who are interested in digital communications and seek a paid internship within the Marketing and Communications Department. The Digital Communications Intern will support the Marketing and Communications team while gaining experience working on a variety of digital communications projects. The intern will create and share content for social media (including TikTok videos and static posts), assemble email marketing campaigns, and write blog posts, among other tasks. The intern will also develop a final portfolio highlighting the range of completed projects.
Schedule
This is an in-person internship with a limited hybrid-work option that is designed to last a full year. The ideal candidate will be available to work with MHS for the spring, summer, and fall semesters. The intern may work up to 15 hours per week, but the schedule is flexible dependent upon the intern’s availability. The final schedule will be determined with the supervisor. The intern will report to the Digital Communications Manager and work closely with the Digital Communications Coordinator and Web Content Coordinator.
The intern’s responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
Blog/Writing
Researching and writing quirky, fascinating St. Louis history stories for MHS’s blog
Promoting blog posts by scheduling their social media shares and putting together a weekly eNewsletter
Social Media
Creating short videos about exhibits and other MHS priorities for use on TikTok and Instagram Reels, including planning, filming, and editing content
Scheduling static posts for Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms to help promote exhibits, programs, and other priorities
Providing live social media coverage at occasional events
Web/Email Marketing
Producing, scheduling, and publishing eNewsletter content using Mailchimp
Assisting the Web Content Coordinator with website updates using WordPress
Qualifications: Intern qualifications:
Communications, history, English, film, or related area of study preferred
Interest in digital communications and marketing
Strong storytelling and communication skills
Ability to identify target audiences, work with a team to create strategy, and think creatively when communicating concepts
Knowledge of social media scheduling software, email marketing platforms, or website content management systems a plus
Availability to attend occasional evening or weekend events
Learning objectives:
Gain experience in the field of nonprofit digital communications
Strengthen skills in writing and editing, as well as in creating content for video, social media, and email marketing
Gain an understanding of how to plan, execute, and evaluate blog posts, social media campaigns, and email marketing campaigns
Produce a wide-ranging final portfolio that highlights key projects produced throughout the internship
