Diagnostic Radiology Coder

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Diagnostic Radiology Coder based in the United States.

This fully remote role supports accurate, compliant, and timely coding for outpatient diagnostic radiology and ancillary services.
You’ll review medical records and translate clinical documentation into accurate diagnosis and procedure codes for professional and facility services.
The role requires strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and radiology-specific coding guidelines.
You’ll help identify and resolve coding edits, billing issues, denials, and documentation gaps while maintaining high quality and productivity standards.
Success in this position depends on attention to detail, sound clinical judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to work independently.
You’ll collaborate with managers and healthcare providers when clarification is needed and continuously strengthen your coding expertise.

Accountabilities

• Medical Record Review: Analyze outpatient diagnostic radiology and ancillary-service documentation and abstract relevant clinical information for accurate coding.

• Code Assignment: Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes, including relevant modifiers, for diagnoses and procedures.

• Radiology Coding: Code a broad range of radiology modalities, including Level I services, duplex and Doppler ultrasounds, CT/CTA, MRI, and nuclear medicine.

• Compliance & Edits: Apply applicable LCD, NCD, and National Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) guidelines and review encounters for bundling and other coding edits.

• Billing & Denial Resolution: Perform secondary reviews of medical records and coding assignments to resolve claim edits, warnings, billing issues, and denials.

• Documentation Clarification: Identify incomplete, ambiguous, or unclear documentation and seek appropriate clarification from managers, providers, or designated resources.

• Data Entry: Enter accurate coding information into client coding systems to support timely transfer of data to billing and reimbursement processes.

• Quality & Productivity: Maintain established coding accuracy, quality, and productivity standards, including a target audit score of at least 95% and production rate of at least 90%.

• Communication: Escalate coding, compliance, and documentation concerns to management and collaborate effectively with colleagues.

• Continuous Learning: Maintain and expand coding knowledge through continuing education, industry literature, and ongoing review of relevant guidelines.

• Confidentiality: Protect patient information and strictly follow HIPAA and applicable confidentiality requirements.

• Project Compliance: Follow client-specific coding guidelines, workflows, and requirements according to assigned work queues and business needs.

Requirements

• Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience specifically in diagnostic radiology coding.

• Certification: RCC, CPC, CCS-P, or an equivalent recognized coding certification.

• Technical Knowledge: Moderate knowledge of Level 1 and Level 2 modifiers, CCI edits, LCDs, NCDs, and applicable coding regulations.

• Radiology Expertise: Demonstrated ability to code diagnostic radiology services across ultrasound, duplex and Doppler, CT/CTA, MRI, nuclear medicine, and related modalities.

• Coding Systems: Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding classification systems.

• Technology: Experience with 3M coding systems is a plus.

• Quality Focus: Ability to consistently meet high accuracy standards, with an expected audit score of 95% or better.

• Productivity: Ability to maintain a production rate of 90% or higher while preserving coding accuracy and compliance.

• Analytical Skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify discrepancies, interpret documentation, and resolve coding problems.

• Judgment: Strong critical-thinking and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to work independently and handle moderately complex compliance issues.

• Communication: Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with managers, providers, and colleagues.

• Professionalism: Demonstrated ethical conduct, honesty, accountability, and respect for patient confidentiality.

• Remote Work: Ability to work effectively from a home-based office with minimal supervision and participate in meetings through conference calls and Microsoft Teams.

• Location: Must be a U.S. resident currently living in one of the following states: Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Texas.

• Pre-Employment Assessment: Candidates must complete a coding assessment before the initial screening interview.
