Job Description:

Supports the Outdoor Adventure Program and Bike/Ski Shop through trip leadership, equipment maintenance, rentals, inventory management, and customer service. This position works collaboratively with Recreation staff to provide safe, welcoming, and well-organized outdoor and recreation experiences while supporting the broader Student Affairs community.

 OAP leaders are responsible for the planning, leading, instruction, and risk management of Outdoor Adventure Program trips and programs. Trip Leaders are proficient in their technical training, and competent leaders of groups in the outdoors. 

• When supporting an upcoming trip, OAP Trip Leaders will work a minimum of two office hours per week in the OAP Office to prepare for the upcoming trips. 

• May perform routine maintenance, safety checks, and repairs on university-owned bicycles and ski equipment. 

• Will collaborate among wellness & recreation staff to ensure coverage within OAP and bike/ski shop needs.  

Additional Job Responsibilities –  

• Learn systems within wellness & recreation to support rentals property which can include; gear rental, inventory management, and trip registration 

• Maintain positive and proactive customer service behaviors at all times 

• Ability to move efficiently between multiple tasks 

• To learn and remember complicated procedures and policies 

• Ability to work well without close supervision after receiving instructions 

• To be punctual, dependable, and honest 

• Answers questions, both directional and informational, in a friendly, patient manner 

• Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently with customers and participants 

• Availability for occasional weekend or evening hours, depending on program needs. 

REQUIREMENTS: 

• Previous experience working in the Outdoor Adventure Program or Bike/Ski shop. 

• Some weekend and evening hours are required, and hours vary. 
• Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder certification preferred or ability to acquire within 6 months. 

STUDENT AFFAIRS TEAM COMMITMENT:  

Although this role and the majority of the duties involve work in the Department of Recreation, we are part of a larger Student Affairs team. As such, you will also be responsible for supporting the broader division through programs, events, and operational responsibilities throughout the academic year. A willingness to serve, collaborate, and contribute beyond your primary responsibilities is an essential expectation of this position.

This position is benefits-eligible for workers’ compensation and will receive 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
