About the role
We're seeking a licensed, caring Registered Dental Hygienist to help establish our hygiene program. You'll provide thorough hygiene care, partner with our dentists on exams and treatment planning, and help create the warm, high-quality patient experience that will define this practice. This role starts flexibly and grows into consistent hours as our patient base builds.
What you'll do
- Provide thorough prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, and selective polishing
- Chart periodontal health and update medical/dental histories
- Administer local anesthetics and place subgingival medicaments, as permitted under the Virginia Dental Practice Act
- Take radiographs as prescribed; apply fluorides and sealants
- Educate and counsel patients on oral hygiene, comfort, and nutrition
- Record all treatment accurately in Open Dental
- Manage treatment-room setup, cleanliness, and instrument sterilization
- Maintain hygiene supply inventory and order as needed
- Handle patient records securely and in full HIPAA compliance
- Help administer the recall system and participate actively in team meetings
Qualifications
- Current Virginia Registered Dental Hygienist license (required)
- Completion of a CODA-accredited dental hygiene program (2+ years post-secondary)
- Local anesthesia and nitrous oxide certification (Virginia-permitted) preferred
- Experience with prophylaxis and radiographs
- New grads will be strongly considered
- Working knowledge of Open Dental and digital radiography a plus
- Strong grasp of HIPAA and infection-control standards
- Warm interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to perform the physical demands of clinical hygiene
- Bilingual (Spanish) a plus, given our diverse patient community
