Dental Hygienist – $65–$70/hr | Flexible Schedule | No Assisted Hygiene

Let’s be honest: some parts of dental hygiene can suck.
Aching hands and backs. Scaling heavy calculus all day. Feeling rushed from patient to patient. Bouncing between two chairs. Production pressure. Being expected to “sell” dentistry. Working in an office where numbers seem to matter more than patients — or the people taking care of them.

We think dental hygiene can be better than that.
At Mark S. Jefferies, DMD, PLC, we are a privately owned, doctor-led practice in Herndon, Virginia. We have intentionally invested in technology, our team and our culture to make hygiene a career you can enjoy for the long term.

First, the basics.

Pay: $65–$70/hour
Schedule: Flexible, ideally 2–3 days per week
Days available: Monday, Tuesday and/or Thursday
Assisted hygiene: No. You have your own schedule and focus on one patient at a time.

We're looking for the right person and are willing to work with you to create a schedule that works for both you and the practice.

Dental hygiene is physically demanding enough. We believe technology should help reduce that burden rather than simply give you more things to do.

Our hygienists have access to:

• Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) to efficiently remove biofilm and reduce the amount of traditional scaling required
• Ultrasonic/piezo instrumentation to reduce dependence on repetitive hand scaling
• AI-assisted imaging and voice technology for charting and note taking
• Intraoral scanning
• Modern equipment and technology designed to support excellent clinical care

• No assisted hygiene. No pressure to “sell dentistry.”
• You aren't running back and forth between two chairs.
• You aren't expected to convince patients to accept dentistry so the office can hit a production goal.
• Your job is to take great care of the patient in your chair, educate them and make appropriate clinical recommendations.

Several members of our clinical team have been with our practice for many years. We're looking for another hygienist who wants to find a professional home rather than simply another hygiene job.

What you'll do

• Provide comprehensive preventive and periodontal care
• Perform periodontal assessments and maintain accurate clinical documentation
• Remove plaque, calculus and biofilm using GBT, ultrasonic/piezo and hand instrumentation as appropriate
• Take diagnostic radiographs
• Educate patients about their oral health
• Apply fluoride and other preventive therapies
• Use modern technology to help patients better understand their oral health
• Work collaboratively with our doctors and clinical team
• Most importantly, take excellent care of your patients

Who we're looking for

• You don't need 10 years of experience.
• You do need to care about your patients, enjoy learning and want to be part of a team.
• We welcome both experienced hygienists and new graduates.

Requirements include:

• Active Virginia Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) license
• Strong communication and patient education skills
• Positive, dependable and professional attitude
• Interest in learning and utilizing advanced technology
• Commitment to patient-centered care
• Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain it
