We are hiring a deli clerk for either one (1) full-time or one (1) part-time position. We are looking for candidates with flexible availability, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Ideal candidates are reliable, organized, and team-oriented, with excellent communication skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment. You should feel comfortable engaging with customers, answering questions, and offering helpful product recommendations.

Shift Hours: May range from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM

• Part-Time Deli Clerk: Flexible Availability Preferred
• Full-Time Deli Clerk: Flexible Availability Preferred

Location: 186 W Portal - San Francisco, CA 94127

Hourly Range: $20.25 - $22.25 per Hour, Based on Experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Accurately completes customer orders and assists in the sales of Deli products
• Answers customer questions, makes suggestions to customers regarding various items for sale in the deli, documents and listens to customer complaints if the General Manager or Assistant Manager is unavailable, and engages with customers while maintaining productivity and customer service standards
• Merchandises and promotes the deli menu
• Accurately processes customer transactions via the scale equipment
• Assists in rotating stock, learns and follows the basics of food preparation and sanitation
• Restocks the Deli as needed throughout the day
• Organizes the stockroom
• Follows the opening and closing procedures

CLEANLINESS & SAFETY:

• Maintains a clean and organized area for the department (e.g., sweeps the department floor, stockroom, and coolers)
• Keeps the store in a clean, orderly condition during shift and ensures that spills, debris, and hazardous conditions are cleaned and picked up
• Cleans cases and shelves, mops and sweeps the sales floor, stockroom, and dairy coolers
• Operates equipment such as a pallet jack and other backroom equipment safely, without leading to injury to oneself or others.
• Protects the safety of oneself, co-workers, and Spangler’s Market patrons at all times, and reports safety-related accidents and incidents to management at once
• Follows safe lifting procedures

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:

• Troubleshoots equipment breakdowns during shift and reports these incidents to management promptly
• If a potential shoplifter is identified, uses CB to advise a management team member
• Follows all company policies and procedures and maintains open communication with management and the ownership team
• Attends staff meetings as scheduled
• Assists in other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to follow instructions, policies, and procedures
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
• Strong communication skills and enjoy engaging with customers
• Consistently reliable with strong attendance and punctuality
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced retail environment
• Previous grocery or retail preferred but not required
• Experience in deli a plus, but willing to train
