The Day Habilitation Aide assists in promoting the growth and development of individuals with developmental disabilities by providing direct support and implementing developmental activities. This role focuses on enhancing sensory-motor, communication, social, independent living, affective, and behavioral skills through a team-based, multi-disciplinary approach, while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Support & Development

Implement individual and group developmental activities under the supervision of the Program Director or Lead Aide.
Assist with client transportation and transfers, using safe handling techniques. This can be in a personal or KDC vehicle.
Support clients in daily activities, encouraging independence while maintaining a structured and safe environment.
Implement teaching strategies aligned with Individual Support Plan (ISP) goals and behavior plans, including PBS.
Encourage and support clients in making independent choices whenever possible.

Data Collection & Documentation

Accurately collect and record data regarding client activities, progress, and behavioral outcomes.
Communicate observations to the team and assist in documenting client progress.
Execute behavior management plans, including PBS strategies, and maintain documentation for clinical review.

Safety & Environment

Maintain a safe, clean, and organized program environment in compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards.
Monitor for potential hazards and respond promptly to safety concerns.
Follow agency protocols in emergency situations, ensuring the safety of all participants and staff.
Promote a culture of safety while assisting clients in all activities.

Team Collaboration & Communication

Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, group supervision, and individual supervision sessions.
Communicate professionally and clearly in both written and verbal formats.
Work collaboratively with team members to ensure program goals and client needs are met.

Other Duties

Identify local community resources and assist clients in accessing needed supports.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency and program standards.
Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned, prioritizing participant safety, growth, and well-being.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior experience supporting individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities or in a similar human services role.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, respectful relationships.
Ability to follow individualized plans and provide person-centered support.
Ability to complete and maintain CPR/FA and SafetyCare certifications.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in human services or related field.
Experience in implementing behavior management programs.
Additional coursework or training related to developmental disabilities, special education, or behavioral interventions.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

Frequently sit, stand, walk, pivot, bend, kneel, reach, and move throughout program spaces and community sites.
Climb stairs and navigate uneven terrain during community outings.
Ability to lift and/or assist clients up to 50 pounds safely and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds of program supplies or adaptive equipment.
Provide physical assistance to participants when needed, including guiding, transferring, positioning, or steadying individuals with mobility challenges.
Provide physical assistance and physical management to participants when needed, in accordance with SafetyCare principles.
Remain physically and mentally alert to respond to emergencies, including the ability to assist in crisis situations or perform basic first aid/CPR.
Maintain sufficient manual dexterity and vision to use computers, tablets, and other office or adaptive technology equipment.
Safely operate a motor vehicle and assist with participant transportation as required.

Work occurs in a mix of indoor program sites, office spaces, and varied community locations such as parks, recreation centers, and local businesses.
May be exposed to a variety of weather conditions during outdoor or community activities, including tasks such as preparing vehicles for winter use.
Occasional exposure to moderate noise levels typical of group activities and community settings.
Must be able to adapt to changes in routine and activity schedules to meet participant needs.
Expected to maintain a professional and supportive demeanor when managing challenging behaviors or stressful situations.
