Custodian

Job Details: Job Location: Safe Haven 2 - Dayton, OH, Salary Range: Undisclosed, The Custodial Worker promotes a culture of safety, hospitality, service, honor, and respect among our homeless guests, our staff, and volunteers, for the purpose of furthering the vision and mission of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The ideal candidate will possess an ability to be able to clean in a home-like environment for a housing program for individuals transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing.  The essential function of the job is to ensure that the staff and residents have a clean facility to work and reside in. The ideal candidate will be able to work with minimal supervision and be motivated and able to identify areas that need to be cleaned.  Due to the population, we serve and the need for a supportive and nurturing environment for residents, the ideal candidate should have a basic understanding of dealing with individuals impacted by mental illness, or a willingness and interest to develop an understanding. 

Essential functions

Complete deep cleaning and general upkeep of kitchen areas, common areas, and offices, including washing windows, cleaning baseboards, ceiling fans, the outside and inside of refrigerators, vacuuming, carpet cleaning, etc.
Ensure trash and debris are cleared from around the building
Ensure agency vehicles are clean and maintained
Sweep and mop common areas, including kitchen floors, hallways, and bathrooms
Ensure the Center has the cleaning supplies needed.
Complete any other duties as assigned/needed.

Equipment used:

Ideal candidate will know how to use a vacuum, carpet cleaner, and cleaning supplies

Daily tasks may include:

Cleaning kitchens, common areas, office and washing windows, cleaning base boards, ceiling fans, outside and inside of refrigerators, vacuuming, carpet cleaning as needed, picking up trash and debris in yard, cleaning porch, cleaning agency vehicle, sweeping and mopping, keeping track of their cleaning supplies, and other duties as assigned/needed.

Physical demands

This position requires repetitive walking, standing, squatting and lifting of 25-50lbs.
Qualifications: Required education and experience

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred education and experience

One year of custodial experience is preferred.
