Summary
The Trauma Performance Improvement RN provides support for quality improvement initiatives utilizing clinical knowledge and expertise, translates data from various registries and collaboratives into meaningful information for quality improvement initiatives relating to patient outcomes and partners with the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director to identify, analyze, monitor, and improve key performance indicators. The Trauma Performance Improvement RN also functions independently in performing the nursing process through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of safe therapeutic care for patients’ needs and/or complications of treatment in the Emergency Department.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists with monitoring the care of hospital trauma patients according to the Tahoe Forest Trauma Clinical Practice Guidelines and Process Improvement dictionary while protecting confidentiality.
• Assists in the data collection and distribution of findings to the trauma leadership for opportunities for process improvement.
• Attends all trauma related meetings to collaborate on process improvement and education opportunities.
• Assists in the development of protocol and clinical practice guideline development for the Tahoe Forest trauma system.
• Attends Injury Prevention initiatives to help educate on trauma prevention and measures for optimal patient outcomes.
• Collaborates with the Trauma Program Manager to identify community injury prevention opportunities and develop education.
• Supports Trauma Program Manager in other process improvement, injury prevention, education, or other tasks.
• Participates as member of the nursing staff within the Emergency Department.
• Interprets assessment data to prioritize treatment needs.
• Implements and evaluates individual plan of care.

Minimum Education/Experience
Associate's Degree - Degree from college or vocational school from a National League of Nursing (NLN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or equivalent accredited school of nursing. The nurse shall have completed a nursing education program that included clinical experiences with actual patients under the supervision of qualified faculty.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Employees that have never been certified must take a live initial AHA certification class. Employees with recently expired certifications will be enrolled in Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI). Certification must be completed within specified time frame.

BLS/ACLS/PALS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS certification).

Required

• Demonstrates strong analytical skills; strong communication skills; excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize requests and assignments.
• Three years of clinical experience in trauma/emergency care.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships
• Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) certification within one year of hire into job
