Primary Purpose and Function

Prepare and cook meals for patients. Support Food and EVS Manager with daily production tasks.

Required Qualifications: 

• Culinary arts certification or two (2) years of line cooking experience in a healthcare or restaurant setting 
• Minimum one (1) year of line cooking experience
• Active WA State Food Handler Card
• Prior experience using cleaning products, chemicals, and/or equipment
• Must possess basic computer skills and the ability to use various software programs 
• Must be able to successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background check (Federal and state)
• Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends & holidays as needed 
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working in healthcare environment, particularly mental/behavioral healthcare

• Prepare meals for patients according to meal counts and recipes; ensure accuracy and attention to detail 
• Assist with food preparation, including prepping for the following day, stocking kitchen areas, and organizing supplies

• Provide coverage for callouts and support catering production and setup as needed
• Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and portion control
• Ensure kitchen areas are clean, sanitized, and organized, adhering to safety and infection control protocols
• Support the kitchen supervisor in achieving food cost goals and assist with training new employees
• Participate in food ordering, inventory management, and restocking of kitchen and dining areas
• Maintain accurate records, including temperature logs, HACCP logs, cleaning logs and prep sheets
• Observe and participate in all facility-required Safety, Risk Management, and Infection Control practices

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily indoors.  Lighting is artificial with some natural.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment, i.e. computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, printer, and scanner. Physical demands include sitting, walking, standing, bending over, repetitive use of hands, and lifting up to 25lbs. Position requires close contact with all THIRA Health staff and mental health patients. Hours and days can vary within a Saturday through Friday work week.
