Job Summary
Works as a member of the Nutrition Services team to provide exceptional service and assistance to patients, staff and other customers. Serves and portions food; performs basic food preparation and maintains cleanliness of foodservice areas and equipment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
* 1.Performs opening and closing duties in the kitchen; assemble mise en place for each meal service, execute recipes, prepare and serve for each service period. Assures food presentation continuously meets or exceeds expectations.
* 2.Provides back of the house support to ensure product is ready and available during service periods. Maintains par levels of food items and supplies. Provides front of the house support, serving and working the line during peak service spikes.
* 3.Assists with caterings and special events, including preparation, set up and tear down.
* 4.Maintains a “clean as you go work environment”; utilizes FIFO methods when receiving product inventory; rotates food stock appropriately; checks expiration dates on all food items; adheres to regulations regarding cleaning, sanitation, and time and temperature controls of food products and equipment. Assures dietary orders are executed appropriately. Assures all supplies, cooking and serving utensils / dishware are cleaned and sanitized per industry standards.
5.Provides support to the Manager/Executive Chef, and the Registered Dietitian with regard to record keeping, operating the Point-of-Sale system, menu planning and execution, demonstrations or presentations in educational settings.
6.Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.  Consistently demonstrates SPMC values and provides all customers/guests with an excellent service experience.
7. Special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three months of customer service experience.
• Food handling experience preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations
1. Food Handlers Permit (for Washington State)

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
1. Ability to learn and follow established policies and procedures.
2. Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions.
3. Ability to communicate effectively and to provide excellent customer service.
4. Ability to operate common tools and kitchen equipment.
5. Basic mathematics skills; ability to accurately process cash register transitions and make appropriate change. Cash handling experience preferred.
6. Knowledge and/or training related to special diets preferred.
