KGL Consulting is seeking a Consulting Associate II to help scholarly publishing organizations navigate strategic, operational, financial, and market challenges. You’ll research complex questions, analyze qualitative and quantitative information, develop recommendations, and help turn insights into actionable strategies for clients.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced scholarly publishing professional who enjoys solving problems, digging into data, and contributing to meaningful client work.

What You’ll Do

As a Consulting Associate II, you’ll work alongside experienced consultants while taking ownership of defined projects and workstreams. Your work may support strategic planning, market research, publishing program development, competitive analysis, pricing studies, financial analysis, publishing agreements, RFPs, content licensing, and other advisory engagements.

Research, Analysis & Client Deliverables

• Conduct primary and secondary research through interviews, surveys, market research, environmental scans, competitive assessments, benchmarking, and data gathering.
• Analyze qualitative and quantitative information to identify meaningful findings, trends, inconsistencies, and opportunities.
• Develop evidence based findings and recommendations in collaboration with project leadership.
• Create polished client deliverables including reports, presentations, spreadsheets, financial analyses, and recommendations.
• Manage defined workstreams independently and, when assigned, lead straightforward consulting projects with established objectives.
• Review sources, calculations, and deliverables carefully to ensure accuracy and quality.

Project & Client Support

• Manage assigned priorities, schedules, and deadlines across multiple projects.
• Participate in client meetings and presentations, presenting assigned research, findings, and analyses.
• Communicate professionally with clients and internal stakeholders throughout engagements.
• Identify potential project risks, delays, scope concerns, or areas requiring additional expertise and raise them appropriately.
• Collaborate with colleagues across KGL Consulting and other KGL teams.

Business Development

• Contribute research, project information, work plans, and written content to consulting proposals.
• Adapt existing proposal materials and assist with straightforward proposals under appropriate guidance.
• Identify potential additional client needs that emerge through project work.
• Support prospective client research, outreach, follow up, and other business development activities.

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience.
• 5 or more years of progressive experience in scholarly publishing or a closely related field.
• Strong research, analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
• Excellent writing skills with the ability to turn complex information into clear, concise, and compelling insights.
• Professional and diplomatic communication skills, including confidence contributing to client discussions and presentations.
• Experience managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
• Ability to interpret financial, operational, and performance information and draw well supported conclusions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, including Excel for data and financial analysis.
• Ability to work independently, incorporate feedback, and recognize when additional guidance or expertise is needed.
• Ability to work successfully in a remote environment while handling confidential client and company information with discretion.

Even Better If You Have

• Experience with journal or portfolio management, editorial operations, publishing partnerships, market research, product development, production, publishing technology, or commercial analysis.
• Experience conducting interviews, surveys, competitive research, market assessments, or other primary and secondary research.
• Experience creating professional reports, presentations, or recommendations for internal or external audiences.
• Knowledge of scholarly publishing business models and the roles of publishers, societies, vendors, and technology providers.
• Experience analyzing budgets, pricing, financial projections, or other quantitative information.

The Work Environment

This is a remote office position involving regular computer work, written communication, and telephone and video meetings. Some work outside regular business hours may occasionally be needed to accommodate client or company requirements.

Occasional travel may be required for client, company, and industry meetings.
