What You'll Do

Inspire Individual Musical Growth

  • Use varied teaching techniques - including technology - to engage students and deepen their learning
  • Encourage critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication through music
Adapt to Lovett's Schedule

Our Conservatory operates throughout the school day and beyond, offering families flexibility. You'll need to be adaptable in scheduling lessons.

  • Accommodate Lovett's rotating school schedule for lessons during the school day, OR
  • Teach before/after regular school hours (early morning or afternoon/evening slots)
  • Offer virtual lessons when appropriate to meet student and family needs

Who You Are

You bring:

  • Bachelor of Music Degree or significant professional playing experience (Master of Music preferred)
  • Professional-level playing experience on your instrument - you're an accomplished musician who can demonstrate excellence
  • 2 years experience of private instructor or teaching younger students (K-8) and/or high school musicians (9-12)
  • Excellent communication skills - you can explain complex musical concepts clearly to students, parents, and colleagues

  • Collaborative – You see yourself as part of a larger music program and enjoy working with ensemble directors and fellow instructors
  • Adaptable – You can teach a kindergartener one hour and a college-bound senior the next, adjusting your approach seamlessly
  • Excellent communicator – You keep parents informed about progress, celebrate wins, and address challenges constructively
  • Creative and engaging – You use varied techniques, technology, and real-world musical examples to keep lessons dynamic
  • Professional – You model excellence, reliability, and respect in all interactions

Additional Experience (Preferred, Not Required):

  • Familiarity with independent school environments
  • Performance experience in professional ensembles, orchestras, or recording settings
