Job Description
The School for Independent Learners (SIL) is seeking a part-time, in-person AP Computer Science Teacher to provide primarily one-to-one instruction to high school students. The ideal candidate will have teaching, tutoring, or professional experience in computer science, programming, or a related field. Experience working with high-school students is preferred.
Candidates should be comfortable teaching:

AP Computer Science

Introductory Computer Science and programming fundamentals

Object-oriented programming

Algorithms and problem solving

Data structures

Java and other programming languages commonly used in high-school computer science courses
Experience teaching mathematics or additional STEM subjects is a strong plus, but not required.
This is a part-time position, with teaching hours based on student enrollment and demand. Our teaching schedule is flexible and designed to accommodate both students' families and teachers. Because SIL specializes in individualized instruction, teachers work primarily one-to-one with students, allowing them to adapt pacing, instruction, and support to each student's individual learning needs.
We are a small, WASC-accredited private high school located in Los Altos, CA. Our academic environment provides students with a safe, nurturing, and close-knit learning community utilizing thoughtfully developed, UC-approved curriculum. Classes are taught in real time and are primarily in person, with limited virtual instruction when appropriate.
Our teachers are dedicated to their craft, with an average tenure of approximately seven years. We provide a supportive and encouraging environment for educators of varying backgrounds and experience levels. The flexible nature of our school supports not only our students but also our teachers. In the past, several faculty members have pursued advanced degrees while concurrently remaining committed to their positions at SIL.
Since we are a private school, a California teaching credential is not required. We are unable to provide relocation assistance or sponsor work visas.
We are seeking to fill this position as soon as possible for the 2026–27 academic year.
