Casey Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), is seeking a full-time Comprehensive Ophthalmologist to join our faculty at its main campus in Portland, Oregon. The ideal candidate must be board-certified or board-eligible. Oregon state medical licensures are required.

OHSU is a nationally recognized academic health center dedicated to excellence in patient care, education, research, and community service. The Casey Eye Institute is home to a collaborative team of 69 ophthalmologists, 12 optometrists, and multiple basic science faculty, and offers comprehensive subspecialty care including: Glaucoma, Cornea, Retina, Oculoplastics, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Pathology, Oncology, Uveitis & Ocular Immunology, Low Vision Rehabilitation and Ophthalmic Genetics.

The department supports robust training programs including 15 ophthalmology residents and 11 clinical fellows, in addition to internationally recognized research programs in optical coherence tomography (OCT), biomedical informatics, and basic science.

The full-time annual base salary range for this position is $328,701-$408,554/year; commensurate with experience and rank. Base pay does not include incentive pay, hiring bonuses, or additional benefits such as retirement contributions. 

Function/Duties of Position

This position is under the supervision of the Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology.  The duties of this position are in support of the missions, goals and objectives of OHSU and the School of Medicine and include: teaching medical students, house staff, paramedical personnel and the regional medical community; providing clinical care to patients of the University Hospital and Clinics, and affiliated hospitals and clinics; engaging in public service through consultative activities with non-university groups as approved by the Department Chair.  Specific duties include caring for comprehensive ophthalmology patients and providing staffing to residents who care for such patients.  Clinical practice is largely expected to focus on comprehensive ophthalmology at Casey Eye Institute.

Clinical:  The Department Chair will assign your clinical schedule, which is expected to be based at the Center for Health & Healing in Portland, Oregon.   You may be asked to practice on an itinerant basis at other departmental sites.  You are expected to hold 8 half day clinic sessions per week inclusive of surgery.  You will have operating room time available as needed. 

Education: OHSU is a teaching facility and you may be expected to teach medical students and residents as well through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year.

Research: Faculty interested in doing research may apply for departmental research assistance.

Administration: Administrative and other duties may be assigned based on department needs and your areas of expertise and interest.  There will be opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.

Compliance:  You will be expected to abide by all state, federal and institutional compliance regulations and will be required to attend compliance training; perform requirements for Staff Members as outlined in Compliance Roles and Responsibilities in OHSU Hospitals and Clinics; and complete specific compliance requirements as outlined by the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners.  You must carry out responsibilities in an ethical, effective and professional manner, and report potential compliance problems using the reporting processes as outlined in the Code of Conduct.  You will be expected to model ethical and appropriate behavior, professional standards, compliance and personal integrity.  It is required that you understand and comply with the OHSU Code of Conduct, departmental policies and procedures, and applicable rules and regulations.  You will adhere to all Casey Eye Institute Service Excellence standards and expectations and attend all related mandatory training programs.  It is expected that you will document in medical records all patient care services delivered in support of third party bills; process billings for hospital and clinic charges in accordance with HCFA, Medicaid, Champus and all commercial and managed care carriers, and assure departmental compliance with all applicable third party payer regulations and contracts.

Required Qualifications

• Must be board certified or eligible by the American Board of Ophthalmology
• Completion of an Accredited Ophthalmology Residency Program
• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Oregon and Washington
