This is a customer-focused civilian position that performs skilled administrative work in a municipal government office.

The Customer Service Assistant reports directly to the Police Captain and provides support of Department operations.

Spanish/English bilingual is preferred.

Responsible for the daily operations of all Department operations necessary to achieve exemplary Deals courteously and effectively with the public, agency members, and City employees.

Provide information to the public and direct requests to appropriate person.
Handles a variety of routine administrative or technical assignments.
Answers telephone inquiries.
Accept customer payments.
Prepares requisitions and vendor payments.
Composes letters, memoranda, reports, and other documents in conformance with policies.
Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
Establish and maintain files and filing systems.
Responds to public records requests pursuant to Florida Public Records Law (Chapter 119 FSS).
Maintains Department's petty cash.
Operates standard office equipment.
Acquires legible inked fingerprints from requesting customers.
Conduct VIN verifications.
Safeguard confidential information.
Assists city staff at community events.
Performs other work-related tasks as needed or assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Must have a general knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and secretarial skills.
Must be organized.
Must be proficient in the use of office equipment and computers.
Must be able to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed.
Must be proficient in Microsoft programs, to include but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel, and be able to create documents and spreadsheets.
Must have the ability to organize and file alphabetically and numerically.
Must be able to read, write and speak clearly in English.
Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Must have the ability to work independently.
Must be able to maintain confidential information.
Must possess interpersonal skills.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Department members, City employees, and the general public.
Fluent Spanish-speaking bilingual preferred.

Comments:

This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
Qualifications: Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

Must possess a high school diploma or Florida GED equivalent.
Experience in government or a law enforcement agency preferred.

Other requirements:

Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must possess a valid State of Florida drivers' license.
Must possess an honorable military discharge, if applicant has been service connected.
Must be a United States citizen or naturalized citizen.
Must pass a physical examination and drug urinalysis test.
Must not have been convicted of a felony.
Must endure a personal, professional and moral background investigation to determine honesty, maturity and dependability.
Physical activities such as lifting, bending, dragging, sitting, walking, sorting, computer use, and standing for extended periods of time. Work may include outdoor activities with exposure to dust, noise, and extreme weather.
