OKCIC services include not only basic medical care but also dental, optometry, behavioral health, fitness, nutrition, and other family programs.

Oklahoma City Indian Clinic (OKCIC) is seeking a creative, organized, and motivated Communications Intern to join our team!

This internship is a great opportunity for a student interested in communications, marketing, graphic design, photography, video production, or digital media to gain hands-on experience supporting a nonprofit health care organization. The Communications Intern will work alongside our Communications team on projects ranging from social media and event coverage to graphic design, content development, and digital asset management.

What You’ll Do

Create & Support Digital Content

Assist with creating promotional graphics and other communications materials using established templates and brand standards.
Update existing clinic collateral and communications materials.
Support quick-turnaround photo, graphic, and social media requests.
Assist with photography and video production needs.

Social Media & Storytelling

Research current social media trends and identify creative ways to engage audiences, particularly within health care and nonprofit spaces.
Help develop content ideas such as employee, program, and community spotlights.
Assist with timely and last-minute social media content needs.
Draft event recaps, captions, and other supporting communications content.

Photography, Video & Event Coverage

Capture photos and video at OKCIC events based on established media needs and shot requirements.
Assist with organizing and preparing visual content following events.
Support small-scale photography and multimedia projects throughout the organization.

Digital Asset Management

Organize OKCIC's photo and video libraries across Dropbox and Google Drive.
Add consistent, searchable metadata to digital assets to improve organization and retrieval.
Help maintain an organized and accessible archive of Communications materials.

Research & Outreach

Research potential community events and outreach opportunities that support OKCIC's engagement efforts.
Conduct basic media, market, social media, and topic research as assigned.

Editorial & Communications Support

Proofread written communications, publications, and promotional materials for grammar, accuracy, and consistency.
Assist with distributing clinic communications materials to departments and staff.
Communicate with outside vendors regarding production needs and retrieval of completed materials.
Provide additional project and administrative support to the Communications team as needed.

Equipment & Production Support

Help maintain an organized Communications equipment and production room.
Organize physical media, photography/video equipment, and production materials.
Monitor essential production supplies and assist with supply ordering.

Qualifications: What We’re Looking For

Currently pursuing or recently completed coursework in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, Public Relations, Journalism, Photography, Video Production, Digital Media, or a related field.
Strong written communication skills, including grammar, proofreading, and basic copywriting.
Professional verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to conduct basic media, market, and topic research.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace.
Basic understanding of major social media platforms and digital content.
Interest or experience in photography, video production, graphic design, or multimedia content creation.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects and respond to quick-turnaround requests.
Ability to work collaboratively while also completing assigned projects independently.
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and InDesign, is a plus.
Portfolio Requirement - Applicants should be prepared to submit a digital portfolio or relevant work samples with their application. Samples may include graphic design projects, photography, video, writing samples, social media content, campus media, class projects, or other communications-related work. Professional experience is not required—we welcome samples from coursework, student organizations, volunteer projects, or personal creative work.
