Clothing Distribution Coordinator II

Position Profile:

The Clothing Distribution Coordinator plays a critical role in helping Bread for the City process and redistribute clothing and household donations efficiently, allowing us to expand access to our clothing boutique. This position is responsible for sorting, organizing, and preparing donations for redistribution while leading individual and group volunteers in this work. Working under the direction of the Clothing Room Supervisor, the Coordinator will collaborate with staff across Food and Clothing, Volunteer Engagement, and Development. The ideal candidate is highly organized, able to lead others, and committed to creating an efficient program that prioritizes a welcoming and dignified experience for our clients.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Receive, sort, inspect, organize, and prepare donated clothing and household items for redistribution. 

• Maintain organized clothing storage, sorting, and staging areas to support efficient inventory flow.

• Lead and provide direction to individual volunteers and volunteer groups completing clothing-related projects.

• Prepare appropriate tasks and work areas for volunteers and provide instruction and support throughout their shifts.

• Identify items that are inappropriate for redistribution and appropriately manage items that cannot be distributed.

• Support stocking and organization of the clothing boutique as needed to ensure items are accessible and presented in a dignified manner.

• Assist with direct clothing distribution and client-facing activities when additional staffing support is needed, including outdoor activities such as Farmers Markets and Household Pop-Ups

• Coordinate with the Clothing Room Supervisor, Rescue Coordinator, Volunteer Engagement, Gifts Processing, and other staff to support the movement and processing of donations.

• Help identify opportunities to improve donation sorting, storage, volunteer workflows, and overall efficiency.

• Maintain clean, safe, and organized workspaces.

• Perform other duties related to the Clothing Program as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain a basic understanding of Bread for the City’s programs and services to make appropriate referrals;

• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and organizational activities as required;

• Stay informed of relevant organizational and program communications;

• Collaborate with staff across programs and departments as needed; and

• Perform other duties as assigned, recognizing the flexible and evolving nature of the program and organization.

Requirements

• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively as part of a team;

• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced and changing environment;

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including comfort with electronic communication such as email and calendar invitations;

• Familiarity with Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, etc.) and/or demonstrated ability to learn new technology systems;

• Ability to provide clear direction and work professionally and collaboratively with individual volunteers and volunteer groups;

• Ability to regularly stand, bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks associated with sorting and preparing donations;

• Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation;

• Ability to work in a variety of environments and occasionally outdoors for organizational events, as needed;

• Ability to work respectfully and effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds, including clients, volunteers, donors, and staff;

• Familiarity with nonprofit work, public benefit programs, and issues related to hunger, poverty, and economic inequality is helpful but not required;

• Demonstrated commitment to providing respectful and dignified services to people experiencing poverty and economic hardship.
